Zornitsa: Horse Riding and Leisure Activities

A riding center on the edge of the village makes Zornitsa appealing to travelers who would like to include recreational horse riding and horseback rides in their trip plans. The center is about 20 kilometers from Varna. Horse riding is part of a broader range of leisure activities here, which also includes celebrations and other activities.

The Zornitsa riding center offers recreational horse riding and horseback rides. You can also rent a barbecue there; facilities are available for birthdays and other events. Additional activities include soccer, billiards, darts, and archery. The options range from horseback activities to various games and event facilities.

Aksakovo as the Wider Travel Destination

The wider Aksakovo destination also offers horse-riding activities with different focuses. The Dolishte riding center offers forest rides for visitors of all ages, led by a professional instructor. In Kichevo, options include horse riding for beginners and advanced riders, outdoors and indoors, in all seasons. The Borisovi riding center leads routes through forests, fields, meadows, rivers, and reservoirs. These routes are suitable for training and recreational riding; the average elevation is 150 meters. The activities described thus differ in terrain, experience level, and purpose.

Parts of both Golden Sands Nature Park and the Pobiti Kamani protected area lie within Aksakovo Municipality. There, upright stone pillars stand among exposed Eocene sands, creating the impression of a stone forest. Pobiti Kamani is part of the Natura 2000 network; it protects important inland sand habitats with characteristic flora, vegetation, and fauna. You can reach Pobiti Kamani by car or by taking bus route 43 to the Razklon Banovo stop in Slanchevo. If you plan to take the bus, check the timetable in advance.

Aksakovo’s natural areas also offer a variety of points of interest: 184 bird species have been recorded in Batova; 50 are listed in Bulgaria’s Red Data Book, and 80 are of European conservation importance. At Botevo Reservoir, visitors can fish and observe wild and water birds, including wild ducks, storks, snipes, swans, and cormorants. Osenovo Reservoir is considered a year-round destination for anglers and nature lovers; fish availability may vary seasonally. The forested Zasmano Reservoir offers opportunities for relaxation and fishing.

Culture and Other Interests in Aksakovo

Churches in several locations across the wider Aksakovo destination offer a glimpse of the area’s history. The Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Aksakovo was completed in 1906 for its first liturgy; its oldest icons are on an iconostasis dating from 1900. The Holy Trinity Church in Izvorsko was built in 1885. The Church of the Holy Prophet Elijah in Botevo was built in 1867 with the Sultan’s permission; it was later designated a local architectural cultural monument.

In Botevo, the Interactive Museum “Fishing and Blue Growth” shares information about fishing culture, the daily lives of fishermen in the past, and the history of fishing. It also covers the cultural and historical factors behind its development, as well as the “Blue Growth” strategy; an interactive narrator guides visitors through the exhibition rooms. Also in Botevo, the Interactive Cultural and Information Center “Blue Growth” is located in the cultural center building. An interactive table provides information about fishing, natural attractions, and the resources of the local fisheries action group “Varna, Asparuhovo District–Beloslav–Aksakovo.”

Wine enthusiasts can also visit Varna Winery, which is part of the wider Aksakovo destination. It began operating in 2008 and includes wine processing and production, wine tourism with a tasting room, and a shop selling wine and accessories. It is located in General Kantardzhievo.
