Mineral Springs and Location

Pavel Banya lies between Stara Planina and Sredna Gora. Koprinka Reservoir and the Tundzha River are also close by. The mineral water in Pavel Banya is 61 °C and has a pH of 7.6. The town’s tourism profile includes balneological treatments and rural tourism, with the mineral springs serving as a particular point of interest.

The modern use of the mineral waters began in 1923 with the construction of two baths. All seven mineral springs in the deposit were later captured in two periods: 1930–1931 and 1939–1940. Archaeological excavations around the hot springs uncovered remains of an ancient city. Thus, both the long-standing use of the springs and evidence of early settlements are connected with this part of Pavel Banya’s history.

When to Visit and Rose Blossom

Summers in Pavel Banya are hot. Winters are moderately cold, though the snow cover lasts only a short time. Compared with spring, autumn is longer, drier and warmer. These differences offer practical guidance when choosing when to travel, though no one season has to suit every travel plan equally well.

Pavel Banya is especially popular in May and June, when the oil-bearing roses bloom and fill the air with their fragrance. Harvesting is demanding work, and processing is also specialized. More than 5,000 decares of Bulgarian oil-bearing roses are grown in Pavel Banya Municipality. Nine rose distilleries operate there; two demonstrate traditional rose-distillation methods and are open to tourists.

The area where Koprinka Reservoir flows out is also a point of interest for outdoor activities. It is 2 km from Pavel Banya. Activities there include camping, picnics, nature walks and water sports. Check facilities and access locally.

History and Culture in the Town

The Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God in Pavel Banya was built by local residents after the settlement was founded in 1879 and consecrated on November 21, 1924. Another attraction in the town is the monument to Tsanko Minkov Komitata. The tourism offer also includes museums, galleries, ethnographic complexes, and archaeological, historical and religious monuments.

Culture and Nature in Pavel Banya Municipality

Other cultural and natural points of interest are located in Pavel Banya Municipality. Dimitar Chorbadzhiyski, known as Chudomir, was born in Turia. The ethnographic museum in Turia’s community center preserves a valuable collection on the history and ethnography of the village. The more than 700-year-old European hornbeam “Kichest gabăr” near Turia is also a natural attraction.

Above Turia lies the natural attraction Pirostiyata. It consists of three large upright stones and one stone resting on top of them. Even during a drought, the horizontal stone contains water. In the Central Balkan Mountains, just above Tazha and near the entrance to Central Balkan National Park, lies the “Rusalka” hut.
