Anton lies in the southern foothills of the Balkan Mountains. Natural attractions, hiking routes, and cultural sites are spread across the town, the municipality, and the surrounding area. When planning your stay, you can distinguish between a roadside waterfall, a forest reserve, and a marked hike to a mountain hut.

Nature and scenery around Anton

Between Anton and Klisura, Butterfly Waterfall lies beside the Sub-Balkan Road. It is approximately 20 meters high; parking is available on both sides of the road. If you plan to visit the waterfall, check the parking situation in advance, as it may change.

About eight kilometers from Anton, Boatin Nature Reserve lies in the western part of Central Balkan National Park. It protects extensive beech forests; some trees are estimated to be 170 to 200 years old. While Butterfly Waterfall is characterized by its approximate height and roadside location, Boatin represents an extensive forest landscape. Access restrictions may apply in the reserve.

At the municipal level, too, the landscape is closely linked to protected areas: the municipality of Anton includes part of Central Balkan National Park, and the Vartopa protected area lies entirely within the municipality. The municipality also belongs to the Central Balkan UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme area, which is associated with a larger protected landscape and a regional cultural identity.

Hiking and mountain destinations

Anton is one of the starting points for the hike to Planinski izvori Hut on the ridge of the Balkan Mountains in the Gyoldzhuka area. The hike from the Anton municipal center to the hut takes three and a half hours. It follows a marked trail; the duration may vary depending on route conditions. Check local conditions before setting out.

The three-and-a-half-hour estimate refers to the route from the municipal center to the hut. Mountaineers also use Anton as a starting point for ascents toward the Stara Planina ridge. No duration is given for these ascents. Access from Anton into Central Balkan National Park runs through the Vartopa area.

Cultural sites and annual events

The Church of Sveti Prorok Iliya in Anton is listed as a cultural monument of artistic value. The iconostasis doors and certain icons are considered particularly noteworthy. Above Anton is the Chapel of St. George. It was consecrated in 2007 on the site of a small monastery.

A memorial fountain for Todor Patakov, a deceased Bulgarian border guard from Anton, stands on international road E871, at the exit from the town toward Karlovo. Spring water flows in Anton's central square.

Anton holds an annual traditional feast day for Sveti Iliya and a traditional hike along the mountain ridge. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these events, check the relevant event date in advance.

Getting around the municipality

The Sofia–Karlovo–Burgas railway line and the Sofia–Burgas Sub-Balkan Road pass through the municipality of Anton. For your specific journey, it is worth checking the current train timetable and road conditions. This will help you plan your trip based on the route you actually intend to take, rather than treating information about the municipality as referring to a particular stop or road route within the town.
