Discover Kuurne
Accommodation in Kuurne
Kuurne offers several distinct points of interest for a stay: protected industrial heritage, church and farm history, routes, and natural and play areas. If you are looking for a hotel in Kuurne, you can make your choice based on whether culture, walks, family activities or a cycling tour are your priorities when planning your trip. The various attractions have different focuses and need not be seen as one combined itinerary.
Cultural Heritage and Architecture
The Verschaeve flax mill dates from 1936 and is a protected monument. The protected site includes the chimney and the integrated cultural assets. The mill is considered a typological example because of its location on the Leie and the typology of its various components. Both the location and the building forms are therefore important to understanding this industrial building.
The Kuurne Heritage Route passes buildings, monuments, squares, façades, characteristic landscapes, viewpoints and architectural examples. Information boards along the route provide additional information, historical photographs, interesting facts and activities for younger visitors. The stops and boards connect different aspects of local heritage with images and hands-on activities.
The Sint-Michielskerk also offers a specific point of reference for architectural history: the present building dates from 1878 and was built in the Neo-Gothic style to plans by the architect Arthur Croquison. Hoeve Vandewalle is among the oldest known farms in Kuurne; in 1405 it was mentioned under the names Ten Driessche and Goet te Coppenholle. A dated church building and an early reference to a farm thus represent different historical points of reference.
Walking and Nature
The four colour-coded Ezelgem walks cover the four compass directions, each showing a different side of Kuurne. Every route starts at the Kubox car park and is accessible to wheelchairs and pushchairs. The compass direction and the particular side of the town on display give each route its own orientation.
Groene Long is a nature development park of about 7 hectares, within walking distance of the centre of Kuurne. The park includes various water and marsh areas with boardwalks. It is also home to the Blobspeurtocht, a family-friendly search of about 1.5 kilometres for children aged 7 to 12. The nature park and the search offer different options for a stay, whether you are interested in green spaces or an activity for this age group.
Vlaspark has a woodland playground with a barefoot path, a log course, a Hobbit playhouse and a climbing frame. Heulebeekdomein is suitable for a short walk and is home to one of the most beautiful and species-rich woodland plant communities. If you are choosing Kuurne for its walking routes and nature, you will find a range of options: from a short stroll to an age-specific search or a visit to the woodland playground.
Cycling and Events
The “Paters en hertoginnen” cycling route is a 37.7-kilometre circular route. You can start at the Damier car park on Lt.-Gen.-Gérardstraat in Kuurne; from there, follow the signs to junction 67. As route details may be revised, it is advisable to check the latest route information before setting off.
Harness racing and events are held at Hippodroom Kuurne. If a particular event is a deciding factor in your trip, check the dates in advance; the events programme may change.
