The approximately 10 km Josef Rupp Cheese Hiking Trail starts in the centre of Lochau. Historic places along the trails

Althofen Castle Ruins are a waypoint on the “Lochau – Eichenberg – Lochau” hiking route. The Schwedenweg leads along a meadow path to the Old Schoolhouse. The building was constructed around 1760 under Empress Maria Theresa and is the oldest surviving schoolhouse in Vorarlberg. Its construction date and status give the schoolhouse its own historical significance in Lochau.

The Klausturm Tower was once the centrepiece of the defensive structures on Klausberg. Its former role therefore relates to a different context from the history of the schoolhouse. Since 1999, the “Monster of Lochau” sculpture has stood at the playground by Lochau’s Schwarzbad, adding another public art landmark to the named historic stops.

SUP, sailing and views

At Kaiserstrand Lochau, taster courses and SUP rentals are offered between the lido and the Seehotel Kaiserstrand. At Lochau Sailing School, you can take courses for the basic sailing certificate and the Lake Constance skipper’s licence. These are different ways to enjoy water sports: SUP taster courses and rentals sit alongside sailing courses for two named qualifications.

In the area around Lochau and Bregenz, Mount Pfänder rises to 1,064 metres. In clear weather, it offers views across the Alpine panorama. This adds a connection to the landscape to the choice of lido, trails and water sports.
