Walding: History and Leisure

Walding lies east of the Rodl, not far from where it flows into the Danube, in an ancient settlement area. The old high altar still features the devotional image “Maria Hilf” (Our Lady of Perpetual Help), which attracted many pilgrims from near and far. Walding was a popular pilgrimage site from 1765 to 1770. The church’s documented mention and the clearly dated pilgrimage period mark different chapters in the town’s history.

Waltenstein Castle is also part of Walding’s history: it was one of the old fortifications on Mursberg. The mountain’s repeated mentions in prehistoric accounts are thus linked to its later role in the history of fortifications.

Culture and Leisure in Walding

The sports park also has four asphalt-stock sport lanes, available year-round for stock sport.
