Discover Grossraming: Hiking Trails, Museums and Experiences
Accommodation in Grossraming
Grossraming offers a variety of ways to plan a stay: hikes, cultural collections, traces of the former mining industry and activities on the Enns. When looking for a hotel, you can first decide whether your plans should focus on a particular route, a museum theme or an activity on the water.
Hiking Trails and Geological Features
The Planet Trail is a hike through the solar system, from the Sun to Neptune. At a scale of 1:1 billion, it runs for more than 4.5 kilometres along the E46 hiking trail to the Welser farm. The route combines a hike with a scale representation of the distance from the Sun to the outermost planet named here.
Two mountain trails can also be distinguished by their stated destinations. The Gschwendtalm–Gamsstein route starts and ends in Grossraming. From Gschwendtalm, it leads over steep meadows and through forests to Gamsstein; mountain conditions are seasonal and may vary. The Guck-Naz circular hiking trail continues over the Schartenmauer to the summit of Haingrabeneck, at an elevation of 841 metres.
One geological feature is the Leopold von Buch Memorial. Classified as a geological natural monument, it consists of around 20 granite blocks of various sizes amid limestone and sandstone formations. The different rock types shape the monument’s geological character.
Museums and Mining History
Rosi Gruber’s private Nativity Scene Museum displays 300 nativity scene exhibits. The Heimatstube at the Gruber Carriage Museum offers a different insight into regional culture: it features more than 600 exhibits relating to agriculture, woodworking and various trades, as well as rarities from rural cultural traditions. A visit to the Heimatstube must be arranged in advance. Carriage rides are also available at the Carriage Museum on request.
The Enns Cycle Path R7 follows the Enns towards Weyer; in Grossraming, the Carriage Museum is mentioned as a worthwhile stop. If you plan to cycle the route, keep in mind that temporary trail conditions can change, and check the current situation before setting off.
The Knappenweg trail offers another theme to explore. Its 22 information boards explain the economic importance of mining, as well as the living and working conditions and the social circumstances of miners and their families. The trail offers insights into the 50-year history of the former coal mine. The parish church of Großraming provides a different historical reference point: its oldest parts date from 1513.
Activities on the Enns and Outdoor Recreation
Floß & Co offers raft rides on the Enns in the national park municipality of Grossraming. The landing point for all raft rides is opposite GH Stangl at Eisenstraße 66, 4463 Großraming. If you are planning a ride, check the current timetable in advance. The canoe rental service offers boats for two to three people to explore the river independently, as well as guided tours.
At the leisure centre by Aschatal campsite, a swimming pontoon with an access bridge provides access to the water for swimming, stand-up paddleboarding and canoeing. Check local conditions before use. The river activities can be chosen according to your plans: a raft ride, independent exploration by canoe, a guided tour or time by the water.
For outdoor recreation away from the water, Motorik-Fun-Park Großraming has 18 stations with around 50 elements for climbing, balancing, swinging, jumping and tinkering. Right next door is a 400-metre pump track with bumps, bends and jumps for bicycles, scooters and balance bikes. The two facilities offer different focuses: the park brings together a variety of activity stations, while the pump track is designed as a continuous route with changing features.
