Wesenufer is considered an idyllic market town on the Danube in the romantic Upper Danube Valley. For planning your trip, trails, Danube culture and scenic views are the focus: a loop starting and ending at the market square, hiking trails in the direction of Waldkirchen, the “DIE ZILLE” exhibition and destinations in the surrounding area. These themes offer a range of ways to explore the area—from a tour with a set start and finish point to insights into the building of Zillen and wooden boats.

Trails around Wesenufer

The Wesenufer Market Loop No. 73 starts at the market square, right by the church, and ends there too. The market square is therefore a clear reference point for this loop. The Bründlweg No. 89 leads from Wesenufer to Waldkirchen; the Bräukapelle is located along this hiking trail. This route therefore has both a specific point of interest along the way and a stated direction toward Waldkirchen.

The Danube Resonance Trail Waldkirchen-Wesenufer is just under 13 kilometres long. The exercises are located on the trails or right alongside them. Different details can help with planning your tours: the Market Loop has set start and end points, while the approximate length and the location of the exercises are the specific points of reference for the Resonance Trail. Wesenufer is also a starting point for e-bike tours into the Danube hinterland. The R1.03 Donauengtal Loop is a well-marked route.

Scenic Views and Danube Culture

The Vier-Viertel-Blick is located in the surrounding area of Wesenufer. From there, the 360-degree panoramic view extends across the Innviertel, Mühlviertel, Hausruckviertel and Traunviertel regions of Upper Austria. The viewpoint is right on the hiking trail to the Kleines Kößlbachtal nature reserve. This brings together a named panoramic viewpoint and a specific hiking route.

The permanent exhibition “DIE ZILLE” presents the role of Zille and wooden boatbuilding in the past and present. It includes models of wooden boats and the tools used to build them. The exhibition therefore covers both the boats and their construction; the models and tools illustrate the subject through tangible objects.

Wesenufer was first mentioned in a document under the name “Wesenurfar” in 1310. The Wesenufer Music Association’s carnival session is part of the town’s event culture: it has been held every two years since 1994 and is a regular fixture on the events calendar. If you would like to plan your trip around this event, check the event dates for your travel dates.

The Atelier Fahrner sculpture park is also nearby, along the “Donaublick” running and exercise trail. The park offers views of the Danube, while the metal sculptures add an artistic touch to the surroundings.

The Danube and Your Stay

Wesenufer’s Danube beach offers natural access to the river for relaxing, sunbathing and cooling off. If you plan to visit the beach, check the operating information before your trip. The kitchen at Wesenufer Hotel uses regional and seasonal products.
