For travelers looking for a hotel in Berg Bei Rohrbach, its culture and landscape offer several starting points for planning a trip. Maria Trost and the remains of Berg Castle offer a glimpse into the town’s history. The Mühlkreisbahn Museum in Rohrbach-Berg brings together topics relating to the railway line and station, while hiking and cycling trails, the Panorama Trail and Berger Forest offer different experiences. This makes it possible to choose excursions based on an interest in architectural history, railways or nature.

Maria Trost and Berg Castle

Construction of the Maria Trost church began around 1645 and was completed in 1655. Around ten years passed between the approximate start of construction and its completion. The castle on the hill near Rohrbach was burned down in 1626 during the Peasants’ War. Above the former manor farm, remains of Berg Castle can be seen in the form of an archway or tower. The church is notable for its construction and completion dates, while the castle is associated with the fire and the remains that have survived. The Berger Kirtag is held every year in early September to mark the patronal feast of Maria Trost church. The church is therefore associated not only with its architectural history but also with a recurring festival date.

The MĂĽhlkreisbahn Museum in Rohrbach-Berg

The MĂĽhlkreisbahn Museum was established in the Rohrbach-Berg station building in 1998; Rohrbach-Berg station is right next to the museum. The exhibition features displays about the construction and history of the 58-kilometre railway line, as well as track superstructure work. It brings together three perspectives: the history of the line, work on the tracks and the restored station areas.

The museum’s eye-catching centrepiece is the more than 120-year-old “Aigen” steam locomotive. The dispatcher’s office and waiting room have been restored to their original appearance. Alongside the locomotive, two station areas are also a focus. Children can ride in the yellow luggage cart, which was once used to transport luggage around the station. Visits can be arranged by telephone.

Hiking Trails, Views and Forest

Berg has a well-marked network of hiking and cycling trails for outdoor activities. One specifically graded route is the Rohrbach-Berg Panorama Trail, which is considered very easy. Along it are three viewpoints offering excellent views of the Bohemian Forest, Rohrbach-Berg, the Mühlviertel and the Alps. The very easy rating applies to this trail; the well-marked hiking and cycling network is the broader framework. Berg’s tourist attractions also include the hiking golf trail in Kollonödt.

At the southern edge of Berger Forest lies a woodrush beech forest, considered a botanical treasure from a plant sociological perspective. The name identifies a particular type of beech forest; its classification as a plant sociological treasure highlights its botanical significance. The forest and viewpoints thus add another perspective on the landscape to the trails described above.
