Tumeltsham combines a Baroque parish church and a fire service museum with a network of leisure trails shared by several municipalities. This gives you different points of interest to consider when planning your trip: sacred art and fire service history on the one hand, and walks, cycling routes and running circuits on the other. Its location between the Hausruck hills and the Inn plain, along with information about road and rail connections, completes the picture of the town.

Church and History

The name Tumeltsham was first mentioned in a document in 1122 as the seat of the free family of the Tumuoltesheimers. Among the sights is the Baroque parish church, with a Mount of Olives group by the famous Schwanthaler family of sculptors from Ried. The early documentary mention and the Baroque furnishings offer two different perspectives on the town’s history.

The oldest furnishing in the parish church is a black-and-gold pulpit dating from 1697. It features sculptures of the four Evangelists: Matthew with an angel, Mark with a lion, John with an eagle and Luke with a bull. Christ the Redeemer of the World stands in the center. The Federal Monuments Office’s list of protected monuments dated June 23, 2026, lists the Catholic Parish Church of St. Vitus in Tumeltsham as protected by ordinance.

Fire Service History at the Museum

The Tumeltsham Fire Service Museum covers 200 square meters and offers insights into Austrian and international fire service history through rare and valuable exhibits. The collection includes hand-operated and motorized pumps, uniforms, equipment and signal horns. It therefore brings together technical objects, equipment and signals as different aspects of fire service. This distinguishes the museum’s focus from the sacred art and Baroque furnishings of the parish church.

Hilly Countryside and Leisure Map

Tumeltsham lies in gently rolling countryside between the Hausruck hills and the Inn plain. A leisure map brings together seven cycling tours, eight hiking trails and eleven running circuits, covering a total of 229 kilometers. The routes extend across Aurolzmünster, Hohenzell, Mehrnbach, Neuhofen im Innkreis, Ried im Innkreis and Tumeltsham. The hiking trails are suitable for relaxing walks, while the map also lists cycling routes and running circuits.

The 229 kilometers represent the total length of the network shared by the municipalities, not the length of any one tour. The total gives you an idea of the network’s scope; the number of options for each activity can help you make an initial choice. For an individual outing, the type of activity you want is therefore more useful than the combined distance. Route details may be updated by the participating municipalities, so check the specific route before planning your trip.
