Mettmach lies on the edge of the Kobernaußerwald. Alongside this landscape, the area offers activities and topics relating to history and culture. When planning your trip, you can decide which aspects matter most to you: a named route, several themed stations, or religious and cultural points of interest.

Activities and themed stations

The Mettmacher Platzl project presents local historical, social, cultural and geographical topics at 15 selected stations along the 80 km Mettmach activity area. The 80 km refer to the activity area as a whole; the 15 stations are selected points along it. Each Mettmacher Platzl has a bench, an information board and a QR code linking to a video. The stations therefore combine a place to pause with information on site and additional content accessible by QR code. Their broad range of topics offers different perspectives on Mettmach, rather than limiting the town to a single attraction.

The well-signposted Stoavoglroas starts at the stone bird figure Brunhilde in the car park by Wirt z'Wimpling. Both the route’s signposting and a specific starting point are therefore clearly identified. The activity area is described by its overall length and themed stations, while the Stoavoglroas is described by its starting point and route. This distinction can help you decide which kind of activity to include in your travel plans.

Mettmacher tractor hiking involves accessible rides through Innviertel countryside in a vintage tractor. Unlike the Stoavoglroas, the focus here is on travelling by tractor. The two activities thus differ in how you get around: one is a well-signposted route with a named starting point, while the other is a ride through the countryside. Which one better suits your interests depends on whether you would rather focus on a route or a tractor ride.

Church and cultural points of interest

Mettmach Parish Church is dedicated to Saint Stephen. Its Baroque onion dome is a landmark of the church. Its dedication and architecture offer two different perspectives on the building: one identifies its religious connection, while the other highlights its distinctive architectural feature. The Mettmacher Passion Plays are associated with a converted grain store used as a performance venue. Alongside the church, the plays and their unusual venue are further cultural points of interest. If you are interested in ecclesiastical architecture, the parish church offers a different focus from the Passion Plays and their venue.

Finding a hotel with Mettmach in mind

When looking for a hotel in Mettmach, you can first decide which of these aspects of the town you want your stay to centre on. The landscape and outdoor activities, the Mettmacher Platzl themed stations, the Stoavoglroas or the cultural points of interest each offer different ways to guide your choice. Then consider your personal accommodation requirements and compare specific hotel offers based on what matters to you for your trip.
