Sankt Thomas am Blasenstein combines experiences in nature and culture. Since 2005, the municipality has been part of the nature park and, together with Allerheiligen, Bad Zell and Rechberg, forms the MĂĽhlviertel Nature Park. There are several things to focus on when planning your trip: landscapes and outdoor activities alongside the pilgrimage church, small religious monuments and guided sightseeing stops. Decide in advance whether hiking trails and nature-related activities or cultural sites should take up more of your stay.

Rocky Landscapes and Natural Monuments

One of the area's distinctive natural features is the Bucklwehluckn, a narrow fissure between two large granite boulders on a rocky plateau. It is a single, specifically described rock formation. The numerous natural monuments include seven Pechölsteine (pitch-oil stones). The rocky hills also shape the landscape and are a popular habitat for the swallowtail butterfly. Sightings of this butterfly depend on the season. This gives you three distinct nature-related themes to consider when planning: a rock formation, named natural monuments and seasonal wildlife watching.

Hiking, Cycling and Disc Golf

Nine hiking trails cover a total of 74 kilometres. This overall distance describes the range of trails and helps you assess the options before planning a specific route for your stay. Since September 2016, the S1 has included the Schmetterlingserlebnisweg (Butterfly Experience Trail). The St. Thomas Höhenweg (St. Thomas High Trail) ends in Sankt Thomas am Blasenstein. The two trails differ in their points of reference: the Butterfly Experience Trail is identified by its theme and connection to the S1, while the High Trail is identified by its endpoint in the village. There is also an ÖAMTC mountain biking trail for cyclists. Disc golf combines nature and sport and is intended for people of all ages. This gives you a choice of different activities: hiking, mountain biking and disc golf.

Church and Guided Tours

On clear days, the pilgrimage church in Sankt Thomas am Blasenstein is visible from the Danube region. The village is also home to more than 60 small religious monuments. The church, visible from far away, and the many smaller monuments represent religious sites on different scales. Guided tours include the Obere Burgstall, a castle site and viewpoint, as well as the mummy, also known as the “luftg`selchter Pfarrer” (“air-cured priest”). If you plan to take a guided tour, plan for the period from April to October and check the specific dates in advance.
