A hilly landscape, local history and the K5 Panorama Trail give a stay different focal points. Forests, meadows and fields shape the landscape; cultural and historical traces range from visible remains of a former castle to museum topics and a manor house now used for farming. This lets you connect what interests you during your trip with specific places and topics.

Landscape and Historical Traces

Katsdorf’s landscape is hilly and includes forests, meadows and fields. Alongside this landscape, cultural and historical traces shape the town’s character. These include the former Wolfsbach Castle, marked by a castle mound with clearly visible remains of the castle moat. The mound and moat make the former castle recognisable as a trace in the landscape and distinguish it from the museum exhibits on finds, local history and economic life.

Museums and Local History

The Katsdorf Carding and Local History Museum focuses on the town’s local history and economic life, as well as the cultivation and processing of the weaver’s teasel. Its scope thus covers several aspects of local history and includes a clearly defined focus. When planning your trip, you can distinguish this from the visible remains of the former Wolfsbach Castle: here, the focus is on history and economic life.

Breitenbruck Castle is a well-preserved manor house that is now used as a farm. It stands on sloping meadowland at the edge of the village of Breitenbruck. Breitenbruck is mentioned in the Babenberg Urbar, a land register, dating from 1230. The historical reference and the present-day description of the manor house offer two different points of reference for understanding the place.

The Local Heritage Museum offers another perspective. It displays finds from the Neolithic, Bronze Age and Middle Ages that were discovered on the castle mound in Bodendorf. The finds thus span several eras and are explicitly associated with their discovery site in Bodendorf. Together with the topics covered by the Carding and Local History Museum, they offer insight into different aspects of the region’s past.

The K5 Panorama Trail and Its Themes

The K5 Panorama Trail features 14 information panels. Its route passes through Bodendorf, Schloss Pottendorf, the Panzergründe, the former salt road and Wolfsburg, as well as through the Gusental valley. The number of panels and the named waypoints give you specific information if you are interested in the route. Individual waypoints may change, so check the current route before setting out.

Fitness Trails and Getting There

Katsdorf has Motorikpark® fitness trails at ASKÖ, in Lungitz and near the primary school. You can include the three locations separately in your plans for the area if fitness activities are relevant to your trip. The trails may be renovated or relocated, so check the details for each location in advance.

Katsdorf is accessible by the Summerauerbahn railway, bus services operated by Post and ÖBB, the regional on-call bus and car. If you plan to travel by train, bus or on-call bus, check the timetable that applies on your travel date before setting off. This lets you coordinate your journey with your plans and decide which of Katsdorf’s landscape, history or themed attractions will shape your stay.
