Gallspach: Hiking, Views and Local History
Accommodation in Gallspach
Gallspach offers several distinct perspectives to consider when planning a trip: hiking trails with different routes, historic buildings, and the history of high-frequency therapy. The Alpenblickweg and Teufelsgrabenweg have different route profiles, while Gallspach Castle, the parish church and the museum at the Zeileis Health Centre focus on different themes. This allows you to explore the town through its landscape, architectural history and cultural history.
Hiking trails: views and routes
The Alpenblickweg is 10 km long, with 170 metres of elevation gain and a walking time of around three hours. In clear weather, several viewpoints offer views across the Hausruckviertel as far as the Alpine peaks. The distance, elevation gain and approximate walking time give you a framework for planning the hike; the distant views, however, depend on clear weather.
The Teufelsgrabenweg leads from the town centre steeply downhill through the forest, past the Tirolerhof and into the village of Schwabegg, continuing to St. Georgen. The two routes have different features: the Alpenblickweg is described using specific route figures and viewpoints, while the Teufelsgrabenweg is characterised by its steep descent and route through named places. You can choose based on which of these details matters most to your plans. Check trail conditions before setting out.
Townscape and architectural history
At the heart of Gallspach, the nature experience park runs along GeymannstraĂźe between the Zeileis Institute and the Marienheim residential and nursing home. The street and the two named landmarks help you locate it within the town. Alongside the trails and buildings, this brings a centrally located point of interest into view.
Gallspach Castle is a typical moated castle and has been privately owned by the Zeileis family since 1912; it can therefore only be viewed from the outside. Its architectural style, ownership history and viewing restrictions offer different ways to understand the castle. For planning a visit, the exterior view is the relevant option.
The parish church of Gallspach is notable for its more recent architectural history and artistic design. Much of the church was renovated or newly built in 2005. The artistic exterior design and the construction of the Stations of the Cross were carried out by local artist Erwin Burgstaller. The building’s transformation and the artist’s contributions can thus be considered as two distinct aspects of the church.
Zeileis: history and therapy
The museum at the Zeileis Health Centre documents the history of the electrophysical health resort and of high-frequency therapy, which originated at this centre. Treatment at the Zeileis Health Centre is based on the use of high-frequency currents. This brings together a historical perspective on the development of the health resort and a specific treatment principle. This topic differs from the hiking trails and buildings: the focus is on the history of the therapy and its basis.
