Hintertux can be explored through a variety of excursions: trails along the Tuxbach and to the Schraubenfälle waterfalls, a guided tour of the Spannagel show cave, or experiences on the glacier. When planning, it is worth distinguishing between the routes and the types of excursions. On the hiking trails, bridges, a tunnel, a waterfall and the return to the starting point are useful landmarks; for glacier destinations, details such as the mountain station, altitude and short walk can help you get your bearings.

Hiking trails with different routes

The Tuxbach adventure trail with TUX Worlds crosses a suspension bridge, passes through a tunnel and continues to Hintertux. The Schraubenfälle Waterfall Trail focuses on different landscape features: it passes the Kesselfall, climbs to the natural monument “Schraubenfälle” and crosses a narrow bridge to the valley basin at Waldeben. If you want to identify a route by its landmarks, this trail features a sequence of the Kesselfall, the natural monument and the valley basin, in contrast to the tunnel and suspension bridge.

The Life at the Foot of the Glacier circular trail follows a different route: it descends to the centre of Hintertux and follows the Tuxbach back to the starting point. This distinguishes its route from the continuation of the adventure trail to Hintertux and the ascent on the waterfall trail. If returning to the starting point is important to you when planning, you can focus on this circular trail; the other two trail descriptions highlight different features.

Glacier destinations and altitude

The Hintertux Glacier cable car travels from Hintertux in three sections to an altitude of 3,250 metres. Luis' Glacier Flea Park is located at the mountain station of Glacier Bus III on the Hintertux Glacier, also at 3,250 metres. These location details can be understood in terms of altitude and the mountain station: the cable car travels up to 3,250 metres, while the Glacier Flea Park is located at the mountain station mentioned there. From the mountain station of Glacier Bus 3, you can reach the entrance to Nature's Ice Palace in a three- to four-minute walk.

Guided tours of Nature's Ice Palace lead into a glacier crevasse with icicles, sparkling ice crystals, frozen waterfalls and a glacial lake. The guided tour thus combines several different ice formations. The entrance's proximity to the mountain station and the described tour into the crevasse provide two specific points of reference if you want to include this glacier experience in your day plan.

Guided show cave and snow experience

The guided tour of the Spannagel show cave lasts about an hour and is available year-round. Tour times may change seasonally, so it is a good idea to check the current schedule before your visit. There is a snow experience at the Hintertux Glacier every day of the year; operating conditions may vary.

This makes for a practical distinction when planning: you can allow for an approximate duration for the guided cave tour, while conditions at the glacier may depend on its operations on the day. This lets you choose between a cave visit with a defined time frame, the trail routes described above and the glacier destinations, without combining the different experiences into a single excursion.
