Different priorities may shape your stay in Eben am Achensee: Notburga and regional cultural heritage, a route on foot or by bike, or sporting activities. Chapels, the museum and the feast day offer a different focus from hiking trails and swimming or climbing activities. If you are looking for a hotel, this distinction can help you organise your expectations for your stay.

Notburga and regional history

The Notburga Chapel replaced an older wayside shrine to Notburga in 2003. In the Häuserer Bichl Chapel, a revered image of the Virgin Mary serves as the altarpiece; the chapel was consecrated in May 1949. The Notburga Museum is dedicated to Tyrol’s only saint. In the pilgrimage church in Eben, the reliquary of Saint Notburga stands on the high altar. The church is a destination for many pilgrims. Notburga Sunday is celebrated in honour of the saint every year on the second Sunday in September.

The Achenseer Museums- und Erlebniswelt offers a broader look at life in the Achental valley. The museum village comprises eight buildings and presents local customs, the way of life of the people of the Achental, and the origins of associations and institutions. The collections include historic tractors and the stern of the 120-year-old Achensee steamer, complete with a working engine. During the summer months, concerts by the Eben Federal Music Band are held at the Fischergut. The Karwendel March and the Achensee Run are also held there. If you are planning to attend a concert or race, check the relevant dates.

Another landmark is the Fischergut in Pertisau, now one of the oldest farmhouses in the village. The cultural heritage here brings together different themes: religious devotion, the history of the Achental, and the use of the Fischergut as an event venue. Notburga Sunday offers a regular annual date in September, while concerts take place during the summer months.

Trails by Lake Achensee and in the mountains

The Road of Songs is an approximately 2 km-long, wheelchair-accessible trail along the Achensee promenade between the Buchau and Seespitz boat landings. Each of its twelve stops features a well-known folk song. The Achensee Cycle Path follows a different route: it runs flat along the lake as far as Maurach, then continues into the district of Eben and descends from there to Wiesing. The song stops and endpoints shape the promenade trail; the cycle path is characterised by its transition from a flat section to a descent.

The Rofan area offers numerous hiking routes. It also has via ferratas and climbing gardens for beginners and experienced climbers; check route conditions before climbing. The Adlerhorst adds a distinctive feature: this 360° viewing platform sits at an altitude of over 2,000 metres and is modelled on an eagle’s nest.

The trail to the Astenau Alpe starts at a car park above the Haus St. Notburga residential and care centre in Eben. The path winds through a light pine forest and ends at the Astenau Alpe, which offers views into the Inn Valley. The starting point, route through the pine forest and views at the destination give this trail a clearly recognisable character. Another route runs alongside the Dalfaz Waterfall and ends on the hiking trail to the Dalfaz Alm. The waterfall has a drop of around 60 metres; check conditions before starting the ascent.

Sports and water activities

The Atoll Achensee offers a panoramic swimming pool, a penthouse spa, a rooftop infinity pool, a sauna area with mountain views, a sports pool, an adventure slide, and fun and outdoor pools. There is also a Lakeside GYM with lake views and a 180 m² bouldering hall. This brings together swimming, sauna, fitness and climbing facilities, each with a different focus. Individual areas may have their own schedules; check these if you plan to use a specific area.
