Discover Auffach: Schatzberg, the Holzweg and chapels
Accommodation in Auffach
When looking for a hotel in Auffach, you can focus on specific destinations. At Schatzberg, the cable car, views and trails take centre stage; the Wood Museum and Holzweg explore the subject of wood. Chapels and guided tours about herbs and cheese round out the options. This lets you decide before your trip which of these themes you want to shape your stay.
Schatzberg: cable car, views and trails
The Schatzbergbahn cable car runs directly from the centre of Auffach to the Ski Juwel Alpbachtal Wildschönau ski area. The ride up Schatzberg takes just under 15 minutes; the top station is at an altitude of over 1,770 metres. From the Schatzbergkreuz, you can enjoy views of the surrounding Wildschönau mountains and the Alpbachtal.
The stroller-friendly Schatzberg Family Trail leads from the top station via the mid-station down to Auffach. The easy Schatzberg circular trail, by contrast, leads to the reservoir above the Gernalm. The Schatzberg mountain area also has the Koglmoos water playground; Schatzberg is also a rewarding destination for mountain bikers.
Wood in exhibits, on a circular trail and in local history
The 1st Tyrolean Wood Museum is located in the centre of Auffach. It covers more than 2,000 m², has 39 interactive rooms and displays more than 3,000 wooden exhibits. The floor area, number of rooms and collection describe three different aspects of the museum.
The Holzweg is a circular trail with fourteen stations where you can learn about wood. It starts in Auffach behind the Wood Museum, on the left after the wooden bridge. The Holzweg recalls the former practice of timber rafting: logs were gathered in the Ache river and transported by water power through the Kundler Klamm gorge to the Inn Valley. For a comparison when planning your activities: the museum brings together wooden exhibits in interactive rooms, while the Holzweg explores the subject on a circular trail with learning stations.
Chapels in Auffach and on Schatzberg

At the foot of Schatzberg lies the Steiner Chapel; it is dedicated to the Visitation of Mary and is a pilgrimage site. The Schönanger Chapel is distinguished by its location and consecration date, while the Steiner Chapel’s dedication and status as a pilgrimage site define its religious character.
