When looking for a hotel in Wenns, the reason for your trip can help determine what to focus on: culture, a particular route or seasonal leisure activities. The Wenner Carnival and the Stamserhaus are cultural highlights; there are also circular walks, the Piller Moor natural monument and activities at Pitz Park.

Carnival and the Stamserhaus

The main masks of the Wenner Carnival are the Roller and the Scheller. The Scheller symbolises winter, while the Roller symbolises spring—a seasonal contrast that distinguishes the masks. The carnival takes place every four years. If you are travelling for the carnival, check the date for your chosen travel year.

The Stamserhaus is home to the Pitztal Local History and Nativity Scene Museum; its foundations are 700 years old. Since 2010, a permanent exhibition has displayed around 40 nativity scenes and other special items. Georg Matthäus Vischer was born in the Stamserhaus in 1628. The two dates refer to different things: 1628 is Vischer’s year of birth, while 2010 marks the start of the nativity scene exhibition.

Circular Walks in the Unterdorf and to the Chapel

The Pitzenhöfe circular walk passes through Wenns’s historic Unterdorf district, with its museum, Platzhaus, war memorial and parish church. The walk can be reached by bus via the Wenns Pitztalerhof or Wenns Gemeindezentrum stops. Check the local bus timetable before travelling.

On the walk to G’stoanig Chapel, a path branches off the route towards Larcher Alm and leads directly to the chapel; return the same way. When choosing a route, you can base your decision on the destination: the historic Unterdorf on the Pitzenhöfe walk or G’stoanig Chapel on the second walk.

Piller Sattel and Winter Activities

For a comparison based on the starting point, two tours begin at the same place: the “Piller Runde” leads from the Wenns Gemeindezentrum via Piller Sattel (1,560 m) towards Fließ; the “683 | Vorderes Pitztal Circular Tour” also starts at the Wenns Gemeindezentrum.

At Piller Sattel, the Piller Moor natural monument is home to a wide variety of moors, including raised bogs at elevations above 1,500 m. The pass is therefore both a point on the Piller Runde route and the location of the natural monument. Winter hiking, tobogganing and cross-country skiing are among the leisure activities around Wenns-Piller. Winter activities are a seasonal focus, while the carnival follows a four-year cycle.

Swimming and Indoor Activities at Pitz Park

Pitz Park in Wenns has a natural swimming pond with a water surface of 1,050 m². The natural swimming area reaches a depth of up to 3 m, while the shallow bathing area is a maximum of 1.35 m deep. The difference between the two areas is also reflected in their stated depths.

For bad-weather days, Pitz Park has three bowling lanes, an indoor playroom and a 9-hole indoor mini-golf course. There is also a Pitz Park restaurant with a sun terrace. Check the latest information about opening times and facilities before your visit.
