Culture and history

The Tyrolean Museum Cemetery in Kramsach displays over 100 grave crosses dating back five centuries. Some feature curious inscriptions. The long time span and unusual texts make this visit quite different from a tour of historic farmhouses.

The Tyrolean Farmhouse Museum comprises 14 original preserved farmhouses and 23 outbuildings from across Tyrol. You can explore the buildings inside and out. A 1.5-hour tour takes you through Tyrol’s historic rural culture. There are plenty of games, quiz stations, puzzles and interactive activities for children.

The annual programme includes the Great Church Fair, which the museum holds every year at the end of September. If you would like to plan your trip around this event, check the date in advance.

The small Chapel of St Mary with hermitage on Hilariberg was built by Brother Hilarion a Sancto Sebastiano in 1689 on the debris cone of the Pletzach rockslide near Kramsach. At the centre of the chapel, beneath a canopy, is the miraculous image “Mariahilf auf dem Hilariberg”. It is a copy of the miraculous image in the Church of “Santa Maria della Bruna” in Naples.

The sculpture park is another cultural highlight: near the Basilica of Mariathal on the Brandenberger Ache, Kramsach artist Alois Schild created an impressive Gesamtkunstwerk.

Lake Reintal and trails by the water

Lake Reintal is the largest of the lakes in Kramsach. In season, water temperatures can reach up to 25°C. A hiking trail runs around the lake. This means the same lake offers both a walking route and the option of a seasonal swimming and lakeside stay as themes for your trip to the area.

At Lake Reintal, an accessible hiking trail gives people using wheelchairs or rollators, as well as families with strollers, the chance to enjoy nature right along the lakeshore. The path is flat, well maintained and has regular rest stops. These specific features may be important when planning if you need an accessible path or regular places to rest.

Activities on the water and at the crag

Sport Ossi offers tubing on the Brandenberger Ache in Kramsach. The family tour is a little over 1.5 kilometres long, while the “XL Action Tour” is 3.5 kilometres. At 3.5 kilometres, the “XL Action Tour” is about two kilometres longer than the family tour, which is a little over 1.5 kilometres.

At the Sport Ossi whitewater centre in Kramsach, beginners can get their first paddling experience. A beginner kayak course teaches techniques and the right way to behave in whitewater. The two options focus on different aspects of paddling: first experiences and course content.

The approach trail to the Lake Reintal via ferrata starts east of the “Kramsach Parkplatz Halbinsel” bus stop. It leads through the forest in 20 minutes to the point where you gear up, then continues to the start of the route. A helmet, via ferrata set, climbing harness and sturdy footwear are required to climb the via ferrata.
