Gleisdorf offers a variety of ways to enjoy a stay: local history and public art, cycling and walking routes, outdoor activities, as well as a market and wine tavern. The Solar Tree is the landmark of the Solar City; the Roman Trail and the Road of the Energy Transition add their own distinctive touches. You can plan your time in Gleisdorf around the topics that interest you and fit suitable excursions into your stay.

Culture, Local History and the Solar Tree

For centuries, St. Laurentius Parish Church was the religious and social centre of Gleisdorf. Roman history is also present in the town: the Roman Trail is a walk through Gleisdorf that takes about an hour and a half and focuses on a Roman settlement that covered approximately nine hectares. The approximate area refers to the settlement, not to the length or area of the walk.

The Solar Tree is a striking contemporary landmark. It is 17 metres high, weighs 13 tonnes and generates enough electricity to power all 70 streetlights in Gleisdorf’s town centre. The Kunsttrail Region Gleisdorf also includes three sculptures from 2008/09. They are located outdoors at the MiR Museum in the Town Hall, facing Florianiplatz.

The MiR Museum in the Town Hall at its Gleisdorf location ceased operating on 13 June 2026. The collection remains; parts of it have been inventoried or digitised, making them accessible for historical interpretation and to private users. If you are interested in the collections, check access arrangements before visiting.

Cycling Routes, Walks and the Road of the Energy Transition

Marked cycling and hiking trails run through Gleisdorf. The Weinland Steiermark Cycling Tour and the Raab Valley Cycle Path also pass through the town. The Roman Trail offers a different timeframe: a walk of about an hour and a half is indicated. The section of the Road of the Energy Transition in the town centre has eight stations and takes about 60 minutes to walk. These time estimates refer to different activities and can help you plan how much time to set aside for a visit.

The Road of the Energy Transition leads to eight stations in the town centre. In the districts of Nitscha, LaĂźnitzthal, Ungerdorf and Labuch, there are four additional stations dedicated to life energy and inviting visitors to practise mindfulness. The route therefore combines stations in the town centre with distinct themed points in the named districts; the two areas can be distinguished by their respective content.

Outdoor Activities and Specific Visiting Conditions

EMX Park covers a seven-hectare woodland site and offers a motocross and enduro track for adults and young people aged 14 and over. Advance registration or reservation is mandatory for EMX Park; check the booking conditions before your visit, as they may change.

The Gleisdorf Archery Course is a 3D course with 40 targets in an eleven-hectare wooded area in the district of Ungerdorf. Individual athletes and small groups of fewer than ten people do not need to make a reservation. Reservation conditions may change here too, so it is worth checking in advance if you are planning your visit around them.

Gleisdorf Town Park covers a total of 1.5 hectares. It features a Celtic tree circle; the mobility park within the town park also includes a footprint trail. These features have distinct themes: the tree circle is part of the park, while the footprint trail is part of the mobility park.

Farmers’ Market and Seasonal Produce

The Gleisdorf Farmers’ Market takes place on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings in the main square. Products on offer include bread, fruit and vegetables, meat products, juices, flowers and pumpkin seed oil. The selection ranges from food and drinks to flowers. As the schedule may change due to weather or public holidays, check the market days in advance if you want to plan your visit around them.

Another place to find regional and seasonal produce is Buschenschank Seyfried, where spreads, as well as homemade sausages and game sausages, are made on site. Depending on the season, regional products such as vegetables, salad and game are used. The market and the wine tavern offer different insights into Gleisdorf’s food scene: the market with its selection in the main square, and Seyfried with homemade dishes and seasonal ingredients.
