Sankt Peter Am Ottersbach: Wine Routes, Panoramas and Culture
Accommodation in Sankt Peter Am Ottersbach
Sankt Peter am Ottersbach offers a variety of options to help you plan your trip: wine routes, views, museums, a seasonal outdoor swimming pool and a place to dine serving local products. If you’re looking for a hotel, first consider whether trails and tastings, culture or the outdoor pool are especially important to your stay.
Wine Routes and Tastings
The Southeast Styrian Hill Country Wine Route ends in the center of Sankt Peter am Ottersbach, which is also the starting point for the three St. Peter wine hiking trails. The Wine & Mill Trail, on the other hand, starts at Petersplatz, follows the Ottersbach stream and ends at the Ottersbach Mill. The rosarium is right next to a circular hiking trail. This gives you different reference points when choosing a route: the central starting point of several wine hiking trails, and the specifically named route from Petersplatz along the stream to the mill.
Along the Wine and Tower Trail, vintners invite visitors to tastings. On the Wine & Mill Trail, some vintners invite visitors to sample their products. If you’d like to take part, arrange this directly with the individual vintners before you arrive.
Wine Observation Tower and Panoramas
The Wine Observation Tower is a 28-meter-high wooden structure shaped like a wine glass. The height measurements refer to different things: the wooden structure is 28 meters high, while the 360-degree panorama can be enjoyed from a height of 25 meters. The view extends over Slovenia and the Pohorje Mountains, the Karawanks and the Schöckl, the Gleinalm and Riegersburg, and as far as the Hungarian Plain. Its wine-glass shape gives the structure a distinctive architectural character in addition to its 360-degree panorama.
Culture and Collections
The parish church of St. Peter am Ottersbach is a listed monument. Anton’s Vintage Cars displays around 40 tractors, including a 1918 Fordson, considered the oldest tractor in the collection. The Hunting, Nature & Poacher Museum displays hunting equipment and taxidermy specimens from local wildlife. The collections are therefore quite distinct: Anton’s Vintage Cars focuses on tractors and a specific year of manufacture, while the Hunting, Nature & Poacher Museum focuses on hunting and local wildlife. The Hunting, Nature & Poacher Museum offers half-day and full-day guided museum tours and hikes; contact the museum in advance about these activities.
Leisure and Local Dining
The leisure complex includes an outdoor swimming pool with a large pool, a waterslide and a children’s pool. It operates seasonally, so check before travelling whether the season coincides with your travel dates. Sepp’s Berglermühle is a traditional wine tavern where only local products are prepared and served with wine. Check the opening dates in advance if you’re planning to visit.
The activities differ in how you plan your time: museum tours and hikes are available as half-day or full-day options; for the outdoor pool, the season matters, while for Sepp’s Berglermühle, check the opening dates for your travel dates.
