Zieregg brings together several distinct points of interest for planning a trip: the South Styrian Wine Road, a named circular hiking trail, vineyard views and regional cuisine. The road route passes through the Zieregg area; the Berghausen Circular Hiking Trail No. 1 starts in Berghausen and heads towards Zieregg. Tement Winery offers a connection to the landscape, with views of the vineyards of South Styria and neighbouring Slovenia. This allows the route, hike, views and cuisine to be considered as distinct focuses for a stay.

South Styrian Wine Road and hiking trail

The South Styrian Wine Road is considered Austria’s oldest wine road and is around 25 kilometres long. It runs from Ehrenhausen to Leutschach an der Weinstraße and passes through the Zieregg area. E-bike riding is popular along this route. The South Styrian Wine Road itself is Austria’s oldest wine road; around 25 kilometres and the two endpoints, by contrast, describe its geographical scope. The length refers to the entire route, while Zieregg is an area along this regional route. History and route length therefore answer different questions when you consider the Wine Road as a travel theme. The route’s historical significance and geographical scope give it two distinct features to consider when planning your trip.

The Berghausen Circular Hiking Trail No. 1 starts at the former municipal office in Berghausen and heads towards Zieregg. Unlike the Wine Road, whose length and endpoints mark its regional course, the hiking trail is described by its starting point and direction. E-bike riding is associated with the Wine Road, while No. 1 is explicitly a circular hiking trail. If you plan to take this trail, check the latest trail information in advance.

Vineyard views in Zieregg

Tement Winery is nestled in Zieregg and offers impressive views of the vineyards of South Styria and neighbouring Slovenia. The Wirtshaus am Zieregg is also set in the gentle hills of South Styria and offers impressive views across the surrounding vineyards. Both views feature vineyards; the view from Tement Winery also takes in neighbouring Slovenia.

Regional cuisine and products

The Wirtshaus am Zieregg is run by the Tement family winery and combines regional cuisine with a carefully selected wine culture. Crispy fried chicken is available by advance order for takeaway. If you plan to try this dish, remember to order in advance; takeaway also offers an alternative to dining at the inn. The Carmelite Chapel Zieregg is directly adjacent to the Wirtshaus am Zieregg, the Magnothek. In the famous Zieregg wine-growing site, Felix Weinstock produces barrel-aged balsamic vinegar, among other things, together with his son Vasco. To understand the culinary offerings, it is worth noting the difference: the inn combines food and wine culture, while the balsamic vinegar is distinguished by its producer, family collaboration and barrel ageing.
