Ehrenhausen an der WeinstraĂźe is the gateway to the South Styrian Wine Road. The town combines a well-preserved historic center with distinctive reminders of its history and a landscape shaped by Schlossberg, the Mur and the open Murfeld plain. This offers a clear focus for planning your stay: you can explore culture and local history as well as enjoy a hike and visit the Erlebnis-MĂĽhlerei.

Townscape and Landscape

Seen from the mausoleum, Ehrenhausen’s present-day townscape outside the historic center is framed by the wooded slopes of Schlossberg, the landscape to the east with the forests of the neighboring hills, the Mur and the broad, flat Murfeld plain to the north. These landscape features give the area distinct contours: wooded slopes, a river landscape and an open, flat plain. The historic townscape is also part of Ehrenhausen’s character. The view from the mausoleum and its location above the town provide a sense of the area’s layout, while the Mur and the Murfeld plain shape the landscape to the north.

Mausoleum, Church and Local History

The Eggenberg Mausoleum stands on an artificially created terrace on Schlossberg, above the town. Commissioned by Ruprecht von Eggenberg, an Imperial General of Ordnance, construction began in 1609 as a tomb for him and his family. Today, the building is considered an important example of Mannerist architecture in Austria. Its historical function and architectural classification offer two perspectives on the same building: a family tomb and an important example of Mannerist architecture.

In the historic town center, Ehrenhausen Parish Church, dedicated to “Our Lady of Sorrows,” stands directly on the market square. Church and town tours can be requested at any time and for any group size from Mr. Gerhard Stingel at +43 664 42 99 693. If you plan to take a tour, make the arrangements in advance.

Circular Hiking Trail and Traussner Mill

Ehrenhausen Circular Hiking Trail No. 4 starts right in the town center. It follows forest and meadow paths to Traussner Mill and then returns to Ehrenhausen along the Mur. A train connection is reachable within a 15-minute walk from the starting point. When preparing for your trip, you can take both the starting point and the train connection into account; check current trail conditions before setting out.

Traussner Mill has a history spanning more than 400 years. At the Erlebnis-MĂĽhlerei, the 3D cinema offers a three-dimensional journey through time from grain to bread, followed by a bread tasting. The circular trail leads to the mill, while the Erlebnis-MĂĽhlerei offers a separate insight into the history of milling and breadmaking. If you plan to visit, check booking arrangements before your trip.

Seasonal Activities and Hotel

Ehrenhausen outdoor pool has a spacious sports pool as well as separate children’s and baby pools. Facilities also include a beach volleyball court, a playground and sunbathing lawns. As the outdoor pool operates seasonally, confirm that it is open before your trip.

The listed Georgi Schloss operates as a hotel with comfortable rooms and suites. It also serves as a venue for celebrations, seminars and weddings. For a specific overnight stay or event, confirm the current details in advance. This allows you to consider the hotel as part of the local selection of places and accommodation without basing your plans on unconfirmed details.
