A stay in Knittelfeld can combine urban relaxation, architectural history and excursions with a range of different focuses. The city park and swimming pool offer leisure activities, while walking and cycling routes lead to further impressions of the town and its landscapes. There are also historic buildings and attractions devoted to carnival, bees and milk. You can decide whether to focus on green spaces, culture or a particular tour.

City Park, Swimming Pool and Green Connections

Knittelfeld City Park is a 3.5-hectare green space with a diverse variety of trees, and is a place to relax. The park has a mini-golf course, a playground and the City Park Café. Another route to explore is Brunnerkreuzallee, near Ziegelteich: it connects Knittelfeld with Brunner Forest in the direction of Tremmelberg. The park, with its leisure facilities, is therefore quite different from the route leading towards the forest and Tremmelberg.

Knittelfeld’s swimming pool complex covers 20,000 m² and includes indoor and outdoor pools, a spacious sunbathing area and a leisure area with a slide. Unlike the city park, the focus here is on swimming, complemented by the sunbathing area and slide. Since facilities may change, check the current details of the park and swimming pool offerings mentioned here before your visit.

Walks and Tours with Different Destinations

The Knittelfeld town walk passes along Bahnstraße, Herrengasse, Frauengasse and Hauptplatz. Another option is the cycling tour “Nimm´s Radl 08 – Knittelfeld Stadttour”: it crosses the Mur via a “floating bridge” and follows a gravel path to St. Margarethen. As route infrastructure may change, check the current route before setting off.

The Tremmelberg Route ends at the 42-metre-high “Turm im Gebirge” observation tower, built in 1999. From there, the view takes in Knittelfeld and the surrounding mountain landscape. The routes therefore offer different experiences: the town walk features named streets and a square, while the Tremmelberg Route ends at the observation tower. If you are looking for a clearly designated viewpoint for your tour, this is the route’s destination.

Buildings and Themed Experiences

The medieval defensive tower at the beginning of Marktgasse is the oldest building in Knittelfeld. St. Johann im Felde Cemetery Church is dedicated to St. John the Baptist and was built before 1224. It probably acquired its present appearance in the late 15th century. Knittelfeld’s Plague Column includes a statue of the Virgin Mary, erected between 1714 and 1718. The dates tell different stories: in addition to the church’s early construction, its present appearance is thought to have taken shape later.

The Carnival Museum in Knittelfeld houses the complete archive of the BĂ–F since the association was founded in 1962. The demonstration apiary, opened in 2022, includes an educational bee trail and a honey extractor demonstration. These offer different themes to explore: carnival traditions and archives on the one hand, bees and honey production on the other.

The OM Milk Experience World presents the journey of milk, from agriculture through the variety of products and quality checks to processing and enjoying cheese. Tours are available Monday to Saturday by telephone appointment; confirm the date of your visit when arranging one. Together with the bee- and carnival-related attractions, this gives your stay another thematic focus: the journey from agriculture to cheese.
