When planning a trip to Bischoffeld, you can choose from a range of interests: local history, culture, cycling, and landscapes and hiking. Specific attractions include the VW Beetle Museum, the “Nimm´s Radl 05 - Seckau-Gaal Runde” cycling route, the BSC Gaal hunting, field and 3D course, as well as Lake Ingeringsee and the Maria Loretto Alpine Chapel. If you are looking for hotels in Bischoffeld, start by considering what you would like to focus your stay on: a museum visit, a cycling tour, a walk around the lake or hikes in the Seckauer Alps.

Local History and Orientation

Bischoffeld was first mentioned as a place name in the Gaal area in a deed of donation in 860; at that time, it was still a single estate belonging to the Archbishop of Salzburg. Its early history adds a distinct point of interest alongside the natural and cultural aspects of a trip.

A free hiking and leisure map for Gaal is available from the visitor information office at the municipal building, at any inn or at a snack station. If you plan to use the map, check that it is available before you arrive. The area under landscape protection is also clearly defined: the entire upper Ingering valley and parts of Gaal lie within a protected landscape area.

Cycling and Other Activities

The BSC Gaal hunting, field and 3D course is five kilometres long and is equipped year-round with 24 targets and around 20 3D targets. If this course is important to your visit, check local operating conditions in advance, as they may change.

The “Nimm´s Radl 05 - Seckau-Gaal Runde” cycling route follows the Ingering valley as far as “Bischoffeld” in Gaal. It gives cyclists a clear route to this destination. At Lake Ingeringsee, you can plan your time differently: allow about 45 minutes to walk around the lake.

Lake Ingeringsee and the Seckauer Alps

Lake Ingeringsee lies at an elevation of 1,200 m and is surrounded by the Seckauer Alps. In addition to the roughly 45-minute walk around the lake, it is a starting point for longer hikes in the Seckauer Alps. This lets you choose between a walk with an approximate duration and longer hikes.

You can reach the lake by car via an access road that is paved at first. Shortly before the lake, it becomes a gravel road, which you can follow to the car park. The access road is seasonal; it is closed in winter. Take this restriction into account when planning your journey.

Museum and Maria Loretto Alpine Chapel

The VW Beetle Museum showcases the iconic vehicle in all its variety, with a range of exhibits and a VW Beetle simulator. The collection includes original vehicles, carefully restored examples and rare models. The museum provides a distinct cultural focus alongside the natural and outdoor attractions. Access may be seasonal; if a visit is important to your trip, check in advance whether it is possible.

The Maria Loretto Alpine Chapel stands at an elevation of 1,850 m. In summer, it is very easy to reach on foot from the car park. The traditional Weisenbläsertreffen takes place at the chapel on the fourth Sunday in August. If you would like to plan your trip around the event, check the date for your travel year in advance.
