Judenburg combines archaeological finds, city history and views of the starry sky with hiking trails and regional products. The town lies on a spur of land rising high above the valley floor, at the western end of the extensive Aichfeld-Murboden basin. This gives you a choice of themes as you plan your trip: historic landmarks, cultural attractions, outdoor activities and a market selling farm produce.

Archaeology, City History and Church Art

One specific historical landmark is the Strettweg Cult Wagon, found in 1851 in Strettweg near Judenburg. The Murtal Museum takes you back to the Hallstatt period, the Early Iron Age between the 8th and 6th centuries BC. Its exhibits include finds from the cult wagon grave, the helmet grave and the Bleikolm burial mound. In addition to the permanent exhibition, there are special exhibitions and workshops; the museum also features a walkable map of the region.

The Judenburg City Museum focuses on a different subject: its 16 dioramas illustrate key moments in the town’s history. At St. Nicholas Parish Church, architectural and art-historical highlights come together. The church is an early Baroque wall-pillar church by Domenico Sciassia; its Marian Chapel houses the Judenburg Madonna, dating from between 1420 and 1425. The range of subjects thus extends from archaeological finds and city history to sacred art and architecture.

The Puch Museum Judenburg is dedicated to the Puch brand and the people behind its innovations. Its exhibits range from models such as the Puch 500, Puch Maxi, Pinzgauer and Puch G to groups of vehicles including mopeds, motor scooters, motorcycles and bicycles.

Planetarium, Theatre and Time Out

At the Judenburg Planetarium, the shows are followed by a live explanation of the stars and constellations. A Zeiss ZKP4 fibre-optic projector displays the starry sky. The film presentation and the explanation that follows therefore offer two different ways to explore the stars in the same place.

JuThe – Judenburg Theatre in the Wall is an arts and cultural venue in the heart of Judenburg. Its programme ranges from plays to live music, with genres including comedy, drama, crime and musicals. As the schedule varies, it is a good idea to check in advance for performances that suit you.

If you are also planning a visit to the Judenburg Adventure Pool during your trip, its sauna area includes two Finnish saunas, a steam cabin, a bio sauna with a Helarium, an infrared heat cabin and a small Kneipp path. Check the current opening hours before your visit.

Hiking and Getting Around

The hike to Hölzlkogel starts in the centre of Judenburg and follows hiking trails 313A, 313, 43 and 42. Another option is the circular hike around Liechtensteinberg, which offers views of Judenburg and the Aichfeld. At the Judenburg Trail Area – Sendertrail, each section can be reached via well-signposted access routes; overview boards help you find your way. The options differ in focus: a hike to Hölzlkogel, a circular route with views of the town and Aichfeld, or the individual sections of the trail area.

City buses 2 and 3 and RegioBus routes 860, 870 and 871 take you to the Judenburg Hauptplatz stop, near the Sternenturm. As transport information can change, check the current routes before travelling.

Regional Products

The Judenburg Farmers’ Market offers regional farm products directly from their producers. The 2026 market programme describes it as a year-round offering. The market adds a taste of local produce to the cultural and nature-based attractions—a distinct activity to include in your time in Judenburg.
