Fölling is a destination for travellers who want to plan their stay around specific routes and landscapes. The Pope Francis Pilgrim Trail leads from the Basilica of Mariatrost via Fölling to the Basilica of Weiz. There are also hikes towards Niederschöckl, the Roseggerweg in the Nadischhöhe area, and a cycling tour around the Schöckl. The routes differ in their course and destination: the pilgrimage route connects two basilicas, the hike leads to Niederschöckl, and the cycling tour returns to its starting point.

Hikes and routes around Fölling

A hike from Fölling to Niederschöckl starts at the Tischlerwirt and follows the Langeggerweg and Jakobweg. The Roseggerweg runs along the Höhenweg in the Nadischhöhe area and also ends at the Tischlerwirt in Fölling. This makes the Tischlerwirt a landmark in two route descriptions: once as the starting point and once as the destination. However, the routes and destinations are different.

On the cycling tour around the Schöckl, the route climbs the Föllinger Straße and then heads towards Niederschöckl. The return route goes via Holzwastl and Sternwirt back to the Föllinger Straße and the starting point. The Föllinger Straße is therefore a reference point both on the ascent and on the return journey described.

Viticulture history and landscape

Nadischberg is a historic, disused wine-growing area in the cadastral municipality of Fölling. It is a reminder of the landscape’s former use. The Föllinger Bach offers a different perspective on the local geography: it forms in Fölling where several small streams converge and follows the Neusitzstraße. The wine-growing area and the stream running alongside a named road offer different points of reference for understanding the landscape and its history.
