Discover Almdorf and find hotels
Accommodation in Almdorf
Almdorf can be explored through specific interests: paragliders take off from Almdorfer Berg, the Prinzensee Loop is suitable for gravel bikes, and Almdorf Chapel connects the village to a clearly dated history of construction. If you are looking for a hotel in Almdorf, these themes can help you decide what to focus on during your stay—perhaps observing the village square, going on a bike tour or exploring local cultural and historical details.
Paragliding and finding your way around
From Almdorf village square, you can watch paragliders take off from Almdorfer Berg. The village square is therefore a viewing spot, while Almdorfer Berg is where the paragliders launch. The small village square also helps with navigation: follow the signs for “MA 06 | Hinterreit-Runde” to Berggasthof Hinterreit.
The Hinterreit family ski area is also located in Almdorf, 5760 Saalfelden. This location detail adds another clearly named point of reference in Almdorf to the directions to Berggasthof Hinterreit.
Cycling loop and pilgrimage route
The scenic Prinzensee Loop passes through Almdorf on its way to Maria Alm. It has a high proportion of gravel and asphalt surfaces and is ideal for gravel bikes. This gives you two specific features to consider when choosing a tour: the mix of surfaces and the route. If you are planning a gravel bike tour, you can use these details to assess the route.
At the pilgrimage event on October 11, 2025, the S05 Notburgaweg pilgrimage route ran from Taxau Chapel via Oedt and the B164 towards Almdorf and Almdorf Chapel. It then continued towards Niederhaus and uphill to Ritzensee. The cycling loop and the Notburgaweg address different planning needs: the Prinzensee Loop focuses on bike type and surface mix, while the Notburgaweg describes the itinerary of a specific pilgrimage event.
Almdorf Chapel: history of construction and furnishings
Almdorf Chapel is a listed religious monument in the hamlet of Almdorf. Its history can be organized around two dates. In 1715, the chapel was dilapidated; at the expense of Eva Schwaiger, the widow of Lettlgut, it was rebuilt on a larger scale with the help of villagers. In 1719, the chapel received a licence to celebrate Mass. A licence to celebrate Mass is permission to hold a Mass in the chapel.
Inside is a Baroque altarpiece featuring a carved figure of Saint Mary with the Christ Child. The term “altarpiece” refers to the decorative structure above the altar; here, the figure of Mary with the Christ Child is part of the Baroque furnishings. This makes it possible to distinguish the chapel’s history of construction, ecclesiastical status and interior furnishings.
Agriculture in Almdorf
Organic spelt and organic rye are grown at Jagglhof in Almdorf. These two cereal crops add an agricultural aspect to the local details and broaden the picture of Almdorf beyond sport, routes and the chapel.
