Obertrum am See lies at the southern end of the lake of the same name and is nestled among the gentle hills and valleys of the Salzburg Lake District. Nature trails, the lido, a village centre shaped by history and brewery experiences offer a range of options for a stay. Regional products and recurring events are also among the topics to consider when planning a trip.

Nature and Trails at Lake Obertrum

The WaldWissensWeg in Obertrum am See covers a route of around two kilometres. There are 21 information boards along the way, and one interactive station focuses on the forest as a habitat for plants and animals. The focus is therefore on the forest and its forms of life. Those looking for a trail with information about nature will find specific themed stations here rather than a general focus on the landscape.

The Naturerlebnisweg Obertrum takes a different approach: it lies in the nature reserve on the southern shore of Lake Obertrum. The Fischerweg is listed as taking around 1 to 1.5 hours to walk.

In Obertrum am See, the VIA-NOVA trail passes the historic Kaiserbuche on Haunsberg. Planted during the imperial era, it commemorates the unofficial visit of Joseph II, Holy Roman Emperor, on 28 October 1779. There are also fountains along the pilgrimage trail in Obertrum am See. Together, the trails offer different perspectives: the WaldWissensWeg explores the forest, the Naturerlebnisweg lies in a protected lakeshore area, and the VIA-NOVA trail leads to a historic landmark.

Water Activities at the Lido

The Obertrum lido has a family-friendly sandy beach with a shallow entrance to the water. Visitors can sail, go out in electric and pedal boats, and try stand-up paddleboarding. The activities range from boating to paddling, while the shallow water access and sandy beach shape the bathing area.

Visitors have access to a large car park and numerous indoor and outdoor changing cabins. These practical facilities complement the water activities and beach area. Those planning to make the lido the focus of their day will find both a variety of things to do on the water and changing facilities on site.

Village Character and Cultural History

The parish church in Obertrum am See, dedicated to Saint James, has origins dating back to the 12th century. Another historical layer shapes the village centre: after the fire of 1917, it was rebuilt between 1917 and 1927 according to plans by architect Karl Pirich (1875–1956), forming a largely cohesive ensemble. The church’s long history and the rebuilding of the village centre after the fire offer two different points of reference for the area’s history.

The Einlegerhaus Museum is dedicated to flax processing and rural ceramics. The museum also includes an authentic cobbler’s workshop, a living room and a hair salon. Its themes bring traditional crafts together with everyday spaces; the individual rooms complement the displays on flax processing and ceramics with further insights into life and work.

Brewing Culture, Markets and Recurring Events

At the Kiesbye BIERkulturHAUS, visitors can brew their own beer. The TRUMER WELT in the Salzburg Lake District invites visitors on a sensory journey through the world of pilsner beers. The two experiences offer different highlights: one focuses on brewing your own beer, while the other is all about pilsner beers.

The Obertrum farmers’ market takes place once a month. Local producers present fruit, vegetables, mushrooms, eggs, meat and cheese, and invite visitors to sample the products and chat. Check the market dates before travelling. The Trumer Maifest takes place every year. The Trumer Sommerkino is held annually in July and August on the grounds of the Trumer private brewery; check that year’s programme separately. This makes it possible to distinguish recurring events from the specific dates and programmes that matter when planning your own trip.
