Anif between the outdoor pool, cycling route and local history
Accommodation in Anif
If you are planning a stay in Anif, specific interests can help shape your trip: would you like to spend time at the outdoor pool, cycle towards Salzburg or discover historic places? Anif brings together a range of themes, from outdoor activities at the pool to several notable landmarks of local history.
Outdoor pool and activities
Anif outdoor pool is on the outskirts of Salzburg. Clear, fresh mountain water is a defining feature of this natural setting. The outdoor pool offers a range of leisure activities, including volleyball and table tennis. Volleyball and table tennis are activities at the outdoor pool; the Speed-Flying-Fox is part of the Waldbad Anif climbing park.
Waldbad Anif climbing park is also suitable for completely inexperienced climbers. The Speed-Flying-Fox is a zip line approximately 300 metres long; it reaches speeds of up to 60 km/h and runs the entire length of Anif outdoor pool. Length and maximum speed describe two different features of the ride: its distance and its possible speed. If distance or speed is more relevant to your plans for the day, the Flying-Fox figures offer a specific point of comparison with the other leisure activities.
Cycling towards Salzburg
From Anif, you can explore the surrounding area and the city of Salzburg via the Mozart Cycle Route. Salzburg is an easy 15-minute ride along the Salzach.
Bus route 25 runs regularly from Salzburg main station via Salzburg city centre and Hellbrunn to the “Anif Zoo Salzburg” stop. From there, it is about a three-minute walk to the zoo entrance. Check the route again before travelling.
Church and local history
The Catholic parish church of St Oswald stands on a hill in the centre of Anif. It was first mentioned in 790 and features a Gothic choir and a late Romanesque tower. Surrounded by the cemetery, the church and its distinctive tower remain a landmark of the area to this day.
The Sühnekreuz, also known as the “Murder Cross”, has stood since 1953 on the path to the Anif entrance of Hellbrunn Zoo, at the end of Theodor-Gugl-Weg. It is therefore a different historical landmark from the parish church in the town centre.
The historic Thingstätte, later called the Landschranne, represents another chapter in the area's history. In the Middle Ages, the Taiding was held there on the Monday after St George’s Day, when the regional law was proclaimed and justice was administered. The stone Taiding table is a replica built in 1937. The parish church remains a landmark to this day; the Thingstätte represents medieval justice in Anif.
Anif Water Castle has been documented since the 16th century. It lies amid an extensive park, in an artificially created lake.
