For a stay in Neuberg, you can focus on specific highlights: Gerzkopf is known for its forest, moors, and views; two stages of the Salzburger Almenweg lead into the district or continue from there. There is also a mountain bike loop, adventure mini golf, and a guided snowshoe hike. If you are looking for a hotel, you can plan your trip around whether hiking, cycling, winter experiences, or an additional leisure activity is your priority.

Gerzkopf: Forest, moors, and views

The trail up Gerzkopf leads through spruce forest and a dense belt of dwarf pines. The Gerzkopf moors are nestled within this belt; they are unique in the province of Salzburg and have special ecological value. The landscape along the trail thus includes spruce forest, dwarf pines, and moorland.

From the summit, the view extends across the Gosaukamm, Dachstein massif, Tennengebirge, and Niedere Tauern. The striking Bischofsmütze dominates the view to the east, while the peaks of the Hohe Tauern are visible in the far distance. This lets you distinguish the impressions along the trail—vegetation and moors—from the expansive view at the summit.

Salzburger Almenweg: Two stages, two directions

Stage 21 of the Salzburger Almenweg leads via the Hofalmen into the Neuberg district. Stage 22 runs from Neuberg via Gerzkopf to St. Martin am Tennengebirge. Neuberg therefore plays different roles in the two stages: one leads into the district, while the other starts there and continues via Gerzkopf. This difference in direction is a useful point of comparison when planning your trip.

More activities in Neuberg

The adventure mini golf course in Neuberg has 18 holes with unusual themes, including pinball, roulette, and volcanoes. It is located around the pond at Landhotel Alpenhof. Unlike the landscape themes at Gerzkopf, the focus here is on individual holes and their motifs. If you are looking for a different kind of activity in addition to hiking, mini golf is an extra option.

For a cycling trip, the SW09 circular route “NEUBERGRUNDE” (“NEUBERG ROUND”) is one option. This mountain bike tour, suitable for beginners, follows forest and natural trails to Gsenghof-Alm. In winter, a guided snowshoe hike with a guide from Filzmoos Active is offered once a week through the forests of the Neuberg winter wonderland. This gives you a choice between a bike loop and a guided winter tour as different activity options.

Planning hiking and winter days

The FIDIBUS, the Filzmoos hiking bus, takes you to the starting point of the Gerzkopf hike in Neuberg, at the “Abzweigung Gseng” stop. For the return journey, there is a stop directly at Hotel Neubergerhof. The outward and return journeys therefore use two differently named stops. Check the timetables for your travel date if you plan to use this bus connection.

From Neuberg, the Arzbergalm can be reached on foot in about 1ÂĽ hours via forest road trail 50 B, starting at the junction below Neubergerhof. The approximate walking time gives you a helpful indication when planning this hike.

The Filzmoos/Neuberg ski area has a specific closing time due to winch grooming: the slopes are closed from 17:00 to 08:30. Check the seasonal operating information before your trip.
