Adnet puts marble in the spotlight: marble quarries, the Marble Trail and the Marble Museum form a clear thematic focus. The extensive plateau and the protected Adnet Moor also invite visitors to enjoy nature; Adneter Moos is characterised by its variety of habitats. An alpaca hike adds animals and a connection to regional products to the range of activities. Adnet Parish Church also offers a historical perspective. This means there are different facets of culture, hiking and nature to choose from.

The Marble Trail and the history of marble

The Marble Trail takes about two hours and leads through the Adnet marble quarries, passing the Steinbruch-Schmiedemuseum. Information boards along the way explain the characteristics of the rock and how it is extracted; the trail is also suitable for inexperienced hikers. The WandschĂĽtzenhĂĽtte stands at the end of the Marble Trail. The hike thus combines a route through the quarries with information about Adnet marble.

The Adnet Marble Museum documents the formation, extraction, processing and transport of marble. Its history goes back a long way: records from the 2nd century show that the Romans had already established quarries in Adnet to extract stone. The subject of marble can therefore be explored from different perspectives: the Marble Trail leads through the quarries and provides information about the rock and its extraction, while the museum also covers processing and transport.

Guided tours along the Marble Trail are available by arrangement. If a guided tour is important for your plans, check availability in advance.

Hiking and nature in Adnet

Adnet’s extensive plateau invites you to hike and enjoy nature. Schlenken gives the landscape a specific elevation reference: it is 1,648 metres high, Adnet’s local mountain and part of the Osterhorn Group. By contrast, the plateau is described as an extensive area for hiking and enjoying nature.

The Adnet Moor is protected and can be explored on foot. The variety of habitats in Adneter Moos provides the necessary basis for the life and survival of more than a quarter of all plant species found in the province of Salzburg. The two nature areas offer different highlights: the focus at the moor is on protection and exploring on foot, while at the moos it is on diverse habitats and their importance for plant life.

Alpaca hike with regional BBQ

The approximately two-hour alpaca hike takes you through Adnet’s natural surroundings and its impressive marble quarries. The alpaca hike with a BBQ experience combines the tour with a barbecue featuring regional products. The Marble Trail also takes about two hours, but the focus is different: information boards there explain the rock and its extraction; on the alpaca hike, the animals and the landscape are part of the experience, complemented by regional products at the BBQ.

Culture and local history

Adnet Parish Church is also one of the oldest churches in the province of Salzburg. Alongside the history of marble, it is another historical point of interest for a stay in Adnet. You can explore local history through both stone extraction and processing, and the ecclesiastical tradition.
