Discover Ober-Grafendorf
Accommodation in Ober-Grafendorf
For your stay in Ober-Grafendorf, you can choose between several main attractions: cycling along the Pielachtal Cycle Path, spending time at Ebersdorfer See, or exploring the culture surrounding the church and railway. If you are looking for a hotel, it helps to decide first which of these interests will shape your trip. The local attractions offer different starting points for doing so.
Cycling and Ebersdorfer See
The Pielachtal Cycle Path runs from Ebersdorf along the Pielach to the underpass at the Pielach Bridge in Ober-Grafendorf. From Ober-Grafendorf to Loich, the cycle path follows the Mariazell Railway; on this section, you can combine cycling and train travel. This means your tour planning can take into account both a specific stretch along the river and the train connection towards Loich.
The “Around Ober-Grafendorf” cycling tour can also be reached with the Mariazell Railway, which carries bicycles, from St. Pölten or in the direction of Mariazell. This offers another way to factor the journey by bicycle into your tour planning. Check journey times and individual connections separately for your travel date.
At Ebersdorfer See, you can swim and cool off; the water quality is very good. Beach volleyball and football courts are available for free use. This makes the lake a waterside destination with a different focus from the Pielachtal Cycle Path: swimming and ball games take centre stage here, while the path offers a combination of cycling, the river and train travel.
The lakeside facilities also include the seasonal Dschungelparcours on the north shore, directly beside the cycle path. Visitors are asked to book in advance by phone. The facility has two high-ropes courses, each with ten stations of varying difficulty, as well as three zip lines. One of them runs 70 metres over the lake. As this is a seasonal attraction, check the visiting conditions in advance.
Church, railway and other cultural attractions
The parish church of Ober-Grafendorf is a three-nave Gothic pillar basilica dating from the 14th century. Its Baroque high altar is made of red TĂĽrnitz marble. The high altar painting dates from 1756 and was created by the Baroque painter Daniel Gran. Its architectural form and furnishings therefore reflect different historical periods, giving the church a distinctive architectural character.
The Heizhaus Mh.6 displays historic railway vehicles, locomotives and freight cars of the Mariazell Railway. Its focus is therefore on railway history. Check the current opening hours before your visit. The Schloss-Fridau complex is currently privately owned and consists of Neuschloss, Altschloss, the chancellery building and a garden pavilion.
At World of STYX in Ober-Grafendorf, guided tours offer insights into the production of natural cosmetics and include a tasting of handmade organic chocolate. Tours can be booked; check availability for your preferred date. The visit combines a look at the production process with a culinary experience.
Most tavern and getting there
At the Moderbacher Mostheuriger, you can enjoy homemade specialities from Mostbaron Moderbacher in the traditional tavern, winter garden or spacious outdoor dining area. The business publishes its opening days and hours separately. Check them before your visit so you can plan your stop accordingly.
Ober-Grafendorf can be reached via the B39 and by Mariazell Railway. When looking for a hotel, you can weigh your mode of travel alongside your preferred focus: the cycle path and rail connection offer a different emphasis from Ebersdorfer See or the cultural attractions. This lets you choose a destination based on the activities you would like to include in your stay.
