Neustift-Innermanzing lies on the western edge of the Vienna Woods. When choosing a destination, you can focus on outdoor activities, leisure time at the adventure pond or local history. The routes, distances and cultural sites can help you decide which part of the village suits your travel plans.

Exploring on Foot and by Bike

The “tut gut” steps trail is 3,857 steps, or 2.7 kilometres, long. It starts on Hauptstraße, by the passage to Däneke-Platz. The Innermanzing loop also has clearly designated start and end points: both are at the church in Innermanzing. The loop is accessible by bus via the Innermanzing Kirche stop. Another route, the Laaben trail, starts and ends in Neustift-Innermanzing.

The Laabental Cycle Path is an important reference point for cyclists in the municipality. It runs through Neustift-Innermanzing and connects to Tulln and St. Pölten. Along the cycle path, several fitness stations invite you to exercise and try out activities; information boards provide guidance. The local options for getting active therefore differ: the steps trail has a specified length and a named starting point, while the cycle path has stations along the way. There is also an EVN charging station with two charging points, rated at 3.7 and 11 kW, on the village square by the municipal office.

Leisure at the Adventure Pond

The leisure area at the adventure pond includes a natural forest pond, a spacious sunbathing lawn and sanitary facilities. It is intended for sports and leisure activities by sports clubs, residents and visitors. The area also has a large, nature-inspired children’s playground. This combination of water, sunbathing space and playground defines the leisure area; the other local sports facilities are separate from it.

The municipality’s leisure facilities also include two tennis courts with artificial turf: one has a carpet surface, the other a sand surface. These different surfaces are a specific distinction between the two courts. If you are planning your stay around sporting interests, you will find options for playing and training as well as trails.

Churches, Chapels and Local History

The church in Innermanzing was completed in 1967 and dedicated to Saint Augustine by diocesan bishop Dr. Franz Zak. It stands on the regional road and is popular with day-trippers passing through. A bronze figure of Saint Augustine by H. Grandegger, dating from around 1970, adorns the church. A war memorial to those who fell in the First and Second World Wars also stands beside the church. It features an almost life-size statue of the Virgin Mary and two larger-than-life eagle figures, flanked by benches.

In the village centre, a Stations of the Cross marks a more recent chapter in local history: the KSFV built it between 1986 and 1989, and it was consecrated on 9 September 1989. The images are from “Kreuzweg mit Kindern” (“Stations of the Cross with Children”), a work by German painter Ludwig Baur. The village’s history also includes its former pitch distillery and charcoal burning. A reference from 1519 names the place “Manzing auf der Neustift”.

Other sites reflect different periods. The surviving imperial oak was planted in 1908 to mark the 60th anniversary of Emperor Franz Joseph’s reign. In Aschberg, on the northwestern edge of the municipal area, stands a chapel dating from the 19th century. Its square building has an octagonal upper section; the interior is entered from the rear via an external staircase. The Eck wayside chapel on Eckstraße also dates from the 19th century. Inside is a starry-sky painting from the second half of the 20th century. The Oberkühberg village chapel was built in the 17th century and reconsecrated in 1953.

The drying house also brings regional tradition to life. This building, typical of the region, was restored by the Neustift-Innermanzing Culture, Sports and Folklore Association and relocated in 2006 as an attraction on the Laabental Cycle Path, below the primary school. Exhibitions are regularly held in the cultural cellar; check the current dates before your visit.

September Events and Excursions

The September programme at the drying house includes a live demonstration of fruit drying on two weekends. Visitors can bring their own fruit to be dried and sample it afterwards. Check the specific event dates before travelling. Another regional outing is a hike from Neustift-Innermanzing to the Schöpfl, considered the highest mountain in the Vienna Woods. The local routes and cultural sites offer different ways to plan your stay—from a short steps trail to exploring history and regional traditions.
