If you’re looking for a hotel for a stay in Göllersdorf, local history, architecture or a hike may influence your travel plans. The Loreto Church offers a specific architectural point of interest, and a route leads from Hollabrunn to Göllersdorf. Schönborn Palace adds a historical perspective through its former role as a summer residence.

Historical Traces

The name Göllersdorf was first recorded in a document around 1130 as “Gelantesdorf.” On the fourteenth of January 1468, the town was granted the right to bear a market coat of arms by Emperor Frederick II. On 13 April 1632, a treaty was concluded in Göllersdorf in which Wallenstein agreed to return to the emperor’s service. These three dates span widely separated periods: they trace a path from an early form of the name, through market rights, to a specific political treaty.

Architecture and Heritage Protection

The Loreto Church in Göllersdorf was built according to plans by Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt, who also supervised its construction, and was consecrated in 1730. This Late Baroque central-plan building stands on an octagonal ground plan. The terms describe different features: “Late Baroque” refers to the period, “central-plan building” to a design focused on a central point, and “octagonal” to an eight-sided ground plan. This helps distinguish the style, building form and ground plan.

Schönborn Palace offers another historical perspective. Lukas von Hildebrandt built it from 1712 to 1717; it served as a summer residence for the Reich Vice-Chancellor at the time, Friedrich Karl von Schönborn. As of 23 June 2026, Schönborn Palace and the Gfletzgraben circular ditch complex at Schüttfeld in Porrau are protected as historic monuments by official decree under Section 3.

Golf and Hiking

The Schönborn Palace Golf Club has a 27-hole golf course and opened in 1987. The opening year is a historical date, while the number of holes describes the course. If golf is one of your travel interests, this offers a specific sporting activity alongside the cultural and historical attractions.

A hiking route organized by Alpenverein Edelweiss leads from Hollabrunn to Göllersdorf and past a tourist-focused presentation of a 7,000-year-old circular ditch complex. Its archaeological connection gives the route a different theme from the architectural history of the Loreto Church: you can treat hiking and architecture as distinct focal points for your travel plans.

Getting There and Parking

Göllersdorf railway station is accessible and has covered waiting areas, restroom facilities and a ticket machine in the underpass. A Park & Ride facility with parking for more than 50 cars and mopeds is directly connected to the station. The Bike & Ride station has 50 bicycle parking spaces. The parking options can therefore be distinguished by mode of transport: the Bike & Ride station is for bicycles, while the Park & Ride facility is for cars and mopeds. The station also has waiting areas, restroom facilities and a ticket machine.
