Pischelsdorf combines a distinctive church history and historic columns with a natural landscape of meadows. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Pischelsdorf, the town’s history and landscape offer different points of interest: the church and monuments on the one hand, and nature conservation and wet meadows on the other.

Parish Church and Historic Columns

A major fire on 8 August 1908 destroyed the parish church of St. Stephen and almost half of the village of Pischelsdorf. The new church was consecrated and dedicated on 8 August 1925. Both events fell on 8 August, exactly seventeen years apart. The same calendar date links them, while marking opposing events: the destruction of the church and the dedication of its replacement. The Catholic parish church of St. Stephen is protected as a historic monument by decree. In front of it stands the Holy Trinity Column, dating from 1893. By year, the column predates the fire by 15 years.

The statue of St. Florian in Pischelsdorf is also protected as a historic monument by decree. The St. Leonhard Column has a different spatial context: it stands outside Pischelsdorf, north of the Reisenbach, at the site of the former settlement of Einzeiligneusiedl. The column dates from 1743. In comparing the two columns, their locations are relevant as well as their dates: the Holy Trinity Column is in front of the parish church, while the St. Leonhard Column stands at the site of a former settlement. The dates of the two columns are exactly 150 years apart.

Meadows and Nature Conservation

The Pischelsdorfer Wiesen nature reserve lies in the central Vienna Basin, within the Feuchte Ebene–Leithaauen European protected area, between the Fischa and Leitha rivers. It has been protected since 1966. Its location between the rivers gives the area a regional context, while the year it was protected provides a point of reference in time. Remnants of the wet meadows typical of the Feuchte Ebene can be found in the Pischelsdorfer Fischawiesen. These wet meadow remnants are home to numerous plant and animal species that have become rare. The natural landscape offers two perspectives: its protected status and location put the area in context, while the wet meadow remnants draw attention to specific habitats and species.

Route and Practical Information

A post published on 8 October 2021 describes an idyllic forest path from Wasenbruck via Pischelsdorf to Götzendorf. Along this route, Pischelsdorf is the midpoint between the two named places. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

Excursions to destinations and sights in the market town of Götzendorf an der Leitha and its cadastral community of Pischelsdorf can be reached quickly by car, bus or train. This information covers destinations in both parts of the municipality named above and addresses a different planning question from the forest path: it concerns transport options, not a single route. You can reserve tables at the Gasthof Zum Goldenen Feld by phone.
