Architectural History and Museums
Prugg Castle was built in the 12th century. About 80 percent of Bruck’s town walls remain intact. The parish church was built in two phases: from 1696 to 1702, and then from 1738 to 1740. Its high altar painting is from the school of Daniel Gran. Guided town walks are offered year-round by prior arrangement. Check the booking conditions again before your trip.
The museums each have a different focus. The Scout Museum presents the history of the Scouts in Bruck an der Leitha. The Fire Brigade Museum displays historic fire engines and equipment belonging to the Bruck and surrounding fire brigades. The Agricultural Museum and the Jüly Family’s classic car exhibition explore life in the countryside in former times; many classic vehicles can be viewed in two halls. For a trip focused on cultural history, these buildings and collections offer a range of different themes.
Prugg Castle also offers a special insight into its history: on selected dates, exclusive special tours take visitors through rooms that are otherwise closed to the public. The castle’s owner, Beppo Harrach, personally leads the tours. Check dates and availability in advance if you plan to join one.
Harrachpark and Leisure
Harrachpark was redesigned in the style of an English landscape garden at the end of the 18th century and provides a refuge for rare animal and plant species. Route 1 of the Brucker Schritteweg runs through the park. Parkbad Bruck an der Leitha is directly adjacent to Harrachpark. Its facilities include solar-preheated swimming pools with a current channel, as well as a diving pool with a 3-metre tower and a 1-metre springboard.
For ice sports, the Leithana sports complex has an ice rink that is open year-round to ice hockey players and the general public. Check opening times before visiting. For outdoor exercise, Route 1 of the Brucker Schritteweg runs through Harrachpark; ice sports are available at the Leithana ice rink, which is open year-round.
Cycling Routes, Market and Regional Flavours
As well as the Winzer Tour Carnuntum, which starts at Bruck an der Leitha station, the Römer Tour also begins in Bruck. It is a RAD-Erlebnisroute (cycling experience route) recognised in Lower Austria. Cycling and hiking trails run through the Leitha meadows near Bruck an der Leitha. The starting points for the two tours and the trails through the meadows offer different ways to plan active days.
The Bruck weekly market is held every Saturday morning throughout the year. It offers a wide range of fresh, regional and seasonal products. Check the schedule again before your visit. The surrounding Carnuntum vineyards are another part of the regional setting around Bruck an der Leitha.
Tastings at HerzstĂĽck feature five to seven wines from the winery in question, accompanied by regional tapas from its own kitchen. Check the booking arrangements again before your trip. A visit to the market and a tasting offer different ways to discover regional products: one at a weekly market, the other as a bookable food and wine experience.
