If you are looking for a hotel in Zeillern, you can plan your stay around the area’s highlights: castle history, church art, pilgrimage and hiking trails, and cycling through the orchard landscape. When planning your day, the routes differ in their course, a named starting point, or an approximate walking time. The market square and the castle island also offer places to stop for a break.

Castle History, Church Art and Music

The history of Schloss Hotel Zeillern dates back to 863. At that time, King Louis the German gave the site to Niederaltaich Abbey. This links the castle’s history to a clearly documented historical event and the people involved at the time.

Under the Seiseneggers, the church was converted into a Late Gothic hall church. The Parish Church of St James has a beautifully carved altar. The conversion and the altar offer two specific points of interest for travellers interested in church art and historic architecture.

Schloss Zeillern has established itself as an important cultural and musical meeting place. Zeillern has been home to the Lower Austrian Brass Band Association since 1988; the association primarily uses the venue for training courses. The courtyard, castle lawn, and castle island of Schloss Hotel Zeillern also provide space for summer festivals, concerts, and outdoor seminars. If you are planning to attend an event, check availability for your dates directly.

Hiking and Pilgrimage Routes

The Inspiration Trail in Zeillern has six stations covering a range of themes. It takes about 1.5 to 2 hours to walk, providing an approximate timeframe for planning your day. The Most Orchard Trail starts at the information board on the castle island opposite Schloss Zeillern. The two trails differ in how they are described: the Inspiration Trail is defined by its walking time, while the Most Orchard Trail has a specifically named starting point.

The Mostviertel Way of St James passes directly through Zeillern. The Sonntagberg Trail branches off southwards there and leads via Aschbach to Seitenstetten Abbey; from Seitenstetten, the route continues to Sonntagberg. Zeillern is therefore both a stop on the Way of St James and the starting point for a branch route towards Sonntagberg. Marked trails maintained by the Zeillern Tourist Association also lead to Hubertus Chapel on the edge of the forest. The chapel was built in 1974.

Orchard Landscape, Cycling Route and Places to Relax

Blossoming fruit trees shape Zeillern’s cultivated landscape, which is especially inviting for hiking and cycling in spring. For cyclists, the Mostbaron Cycle Route gives a specific route: shortly after Schloss Zeillern, it continues north towards Stephanshart. The orchard landscape describes the area’s seasonal character, while the cycle route indicates a particular direction.

The public Zeillern market square, also known as the “Red Square”, has seating and a drinking fountain that can be used during frost-free periods. On the castle island, beautifully landscaped walkways over the water invite you to linger and relax. You will also find the starting point of the Most Orchard Trail here, allowing you to combine route planning with a visit to the castle island.
