Sankt Paul im Lavanttal: Hotels for culture and cycling holidays
Accommodation in Sankt Georgen im Lavanttal
Cycling, hiking, monastic culture and local produce offer different ways to experience Sankt Paul im Lavanttal. There are various points of interest in the town itself and the surrounding area.
Cycling and tours in the town
St. Paul im Lavanttal lies directly on the Lavantradweg (R10). The market town is also connected to the supraregional Drau cycle route and the cycle route network of neighbouring Slovenia. The R10 therefore connects directly to the town, while the other two routes extend across the wider region. In the centre, Lobisserplatz serves as a cycling information point and a starting point for numerous hiking and cycling tours. The square combines cycling information with a starting point for walking tours; if the information point is important for your plans, check the latest details before your visit.
At the St. Paul sports grounds, the pump track gives children the chance to practise their balance through play. If you are travelling with children, you can include it in your daily plans as a dedicated activity. It is a specific option alongside the cycling and hiking opportunities in town.
Hiking trails and destinations nearby
Nearby, in the municipality of St. Georgen im Lavanttal, is the 1,447-metre-high Bernsteiner Ofen. This striking rock formation is located on the western slopes of the Koralpe and is a lookout point. Bernis Ofenerlebnisweg, a circular hiking trail with puzzle stations, runs at the Bernsteiner Ofen. The rock formation, lookout point and puzzle trail each give the destination a different appeal.
Burg Stein is also nearby, east of St. Georgen. It stands at an elevation of 717 metres on a 50-metre-high gneiss cone. While the rock formation and lookout point are the main features of the Bernsteiner Ofen, the castle’s position on the gneiss cone is a distinctive feature of this destination. In Sankt Paul, the Rabenstein via ferrata is located near the natural monument Flaumeiche.
The hiking trails of the market town of St. Paul and the region include cultural circular trails 1, 2 (KLAR! Climate Hiking Trail) and 3/3A, as well as the Granitztaler Mostwanderwege 1–3. Their names suggest different themes for planning a hike: Trail 2 is explicitly called the Climate Hiking Trail, while the Granitztal trails refer to cider in their name.
Another nearby spot is the recreational area at the Rainzerbach, with a water playground for children and a Kneipp pool. The activities for children therefore differ: the pump track focuses on practising balance through play, while the Rainzerbach offers water play and a Kneipp pool.
Monastic culture and music
Guided tours of the abbey museum offer insights into monastic life, past and present. Plan your visit around the seasonal opening hours for 2026. This lets you schedule your museum visit during the planned seasonal dates.
The St. Pauler Kultursommer is a music festival that presents artists in the abbey church every summer and attracts thousands of visitors from near and far. The individual programmes vary. If the festival is a deciding factor in your trip, check the dates and the programme for the relevant year before planning your stay around it.
Seminars and tastings at the Zogglhof
The Zogglhof regularly holds seminars on distilling spirits and making cider, liqueur and vinegar. The Galerie der Mostbarkeiten has also been based there since 1997. Guided tastings of its products are available on request. The seminars and tastings offer different ways to discover local produce: the seminars focus on production methods, while tastings are guided on request. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these activities, note the difference between regularly held seminars and tastings available on request.
