Accommodation in Micheldorf
When planning a stay in Micheldorf, you can choose between marked hiking trails, architectural history and brewing traditions as different themes. Three trails have specific walking times; there are also churches and historically significant protected sites. If you are looking for a hotel in Micheldorf, these differences can help you decide what you would like to focus on during your stay.
Marked trails with different walking times
Three marked trails differ mainly in their stated walking times:
- The “Micheldorf-Grafendorf-Schödendorf-Micheldorf” circular trail takes 2.5 hours.
- The “Agathenhof-Ostrogweg-Radweg-Friesach” trail takes 1.5 hours.
- The “Micheldorf-Veidlmar Kreuz-Schödendorf Blochbauerweg-Landesstraße” hiking trail takes 2 hours.
This gives you a rough idea of how much time to allow for a hike: at 1.5 hours, the trail via Agathenhof, Ostrogweg and Radweg Friesach is the shortest of the three. The route via Veidlmar Kreuz, Schödendorf and Blochbauerweg takes two hours; at 2.5 hours, the circular trail via Grafendorf and Schödendorf takes an hour longer. You can compare the marked options according to the time you have available.
Churches and architectural history
The nave walls of Micheldorf Parish Church date back to the Romanesque period. The imposing west tower was added in the mid-15th century; the ceiling paintings in the stucco panels were created by Primus Haberl in 1869. The different historical layers of a church building can thus be distinguished by period: Romanesque sections of wall, a tower added later and precisely dated painted decoration.
The Church of St. Lorenzen am Berg served as Micheldorf’s parish seat at least until the mid-12th century. This dates back further than the mid-15th century, when the west tower of the parish church was added.
The so-called Thurnhof at Hirter StraĂźe 1 is a medieval tower and a former primary school. It is protected as a historic monument under a ruling pursuant to Section 3. In Lorenzenberg, the Catholic branch church of St. Laurentius and its churchyard are protected as historic monuments by an ordinance. In Hirt, within the municipality of Micheldorf, stands the blast furnace of a former ironworks; it too is protected as a historic monument under a ruling pursuant to Section 3.
Brewery and local production
Micheldorf is home to the Hirt private brewery. It makes its beer with its own spring water. The brewery and beer cellar are about a 15-minute walk from Micheldorf Hirt railway station. The Hirt private brewery’s brewing day begins with an introduction to raw materials and Austrian beer styles. If you would like to plan a brewing day, check dates and availability in advance.
Micheldorf has a natural swimming pond and a large sunbathing lawn.
