Jois combines local history, cherry-related attractions and nature experiences, each tied to a specific place. The cellar lane runs from the area north of the main square towards the Leitha Mountains; cycle paths and a quiet resting place offer different highlights. There is also a beach in the harbour basin and a culinary connection to Leithaberg noble cherries. If you are looking for a hotel in Jois, you can plan your stay around whether you are more interested in historic cellars, outdoor activities or time by the water. The following sections organise these options by specific locations and activities.

Cellar Lane and Local History

The cellar lane begins north of the main square and runs northwest towards the Leitha Mountains. There are twelve cellars in total along its streetside frontages. The cellar belonging to the Ehardt family on the cellar lane was built in 1778 and is the oldest in the group. These two perspectives complement each other: the lane sets the cellars in their spatial context, while the Ehardt example highlights an individual building within the group, with its construction date and distinction.

Cycling Through Cherry Country

Jois lies directly on the approximately 45-kilometre-long B12 Cherry Blossom Cycle Path, which runs from Jois to Donnerskirchen over hills, through vineyards and past numerous cherry trees. The route links a clearly named destination with changing landscape views. Towards Winden, two cherry variety gardens with old regional varieties lie along cycle routes B10 and B12. They offer a different focus from the longer cycling route: here, the cherry varieties take centre stage. A bicycle repair station and a drinking fountain are located in Jois village square. These are practical stopping points for cyclists who need to plan for a repair or a drinking-water break in the village.

Enjoy Nature and Get Out and About

You can go hiking in Jois in the Neusiedler See–Leitha Mountains World Heritage Nature Park. The Ruheplatzl by the Hiatahütte below Jungenberg offers a different focus: set in a dry grassland landscape, it is a place for quiet, reflection and mindful engagement with nature. The outdoor information board at the Ruheplatzl complements this connection with nature with QR codes that you can scan to find out about the dry grasslands on Hackelsberg and Jungenberg in Jois. Hiking in the nature park and learning about the dry grasslands at the Ruheplatzl thus offer different ways to experience the landscape.

A state-certified tour guide offers walks, hikes and night-watchman experiences in Jois. Additional dates are available by arrangement; check the current schedule before your trip. The three formats combine physical activity and a sense of place in different ways.

Beach and Water Activities

Jois beach is in the harbour basin, about two kilometres from the village. It has a natural gravel beach and a swimming lawn. Stand-up paddleboards can be rented from the beach club on the swimming lawn; availability may be seasonal. This makes a stay here quite different from cycling through hills and vineyards or enjoying nature at the Ruheplatzl.

Cherry Country and Wine Tastings

Jois is one of five municipalities in the “Leithaberg Noble Cherry” culinary region. The connection to cherries is also evident on the B12 Cherry Blossom Cycle Path and in the cherry variety gardens, with their old regional varieties. The wine-growing businesses offer another culinary dimension: many have been passed down through generations and showcase their expertise at tastings. If you are planning a tasting, check the individual options before your trip.
