Discover Ocean Grove
Accommodation in Ocean Grove
Ocean Grove on the Bellarine Peninsula offers several distinct focuses for planning your trip: beach and sea, Ocean Grove Nature Reserve, and surf lessons for beginners. There are also shared paths connecting Ocean Grove with Barwon Heads, bowls and artisan dairy products. This gives you a choice between water activities, walks and other interests.
Beach and sea
Ocean Grove Main Beach is two kilometres long and a family-friendly surf beach. It is located in the centre of the stretch of coast between Point Lonsdale and the mouth of the Barwon River. You can swim and surf in the sea there; the beach is patrolled seasonally and has a walking path. Check conditions before your visit.
The beach has public toilets and showers, a boat ramp and free parking nearby. If you rely on any of these facilities, check their current availability before your visit.
Nature at Ocean Grove Nature Reserve
Ocean Grove Nature Reserve is part of an Indigenous cultural landscape on the traditional lands of the Wadawurrung People. It is the largest remaining area of native non-coastal vegetation on the Bellarine Peninsula, preserving a significant expanse of grassland and heath forest. More than 130 bird species have been recorded in the reserve; it also provides important habitat for seven threatened species. Visitors interested in plants and birdlife will find both here.
The difference from Main Beach is also a matter of landscape: while marine activities take centre stage there, the reserve is characterised by non-coastal vegetation, grassland and heath forest. There is a network of signposted paths for walks. Two trailheads with car parks provide access to easy walks with gentle gradients. Some paths are suitable for wheelchairs and prams.
Surf lessons, bike paths and bowls
Go Ride A Wave offers beginner surf lessons in Ocean Grove every day. Availability may vary depending on the season and conditions, so check the lesson status for your preferred day. For cyclists, two shared paths connect Ocean Grove with Barwon Heads.
Ocean Grove Bowling Club has professionally maintained greens for bowls; the game can be played there year-round. When comparing seasonal options, bowls therefore offers an explicitly year-round activity, while surf lesson availability may depend on the season and conditions.
Artisan dairy products
Food production in Ocean Grove includes Lard Ass Butter, an artisan butter factory on the Bellarine Peninsula. It produces handmade dairy products. This adds another local focus to the beach, nature and outdoor activities: dairy production.
