Mount Buller combines winter sports, mountain biking, hiking trails and alpine culture. When choosing your destination, you can first consider whether ski and snowboard terrain, Bike Park trails or cultural activities should shape your stay. Several activities are subject to seasonal or operational conditions; take these into account when planning your trip.

Skiing, Snowboarding and Bike Park

Mt Buller has ski and snowboard terrain for all skill levels. One specific example is Bourke Street, a beginner ski run with views of Mt Buller Village. Its availability depends on snow and operating conditions; conditions on the terrain also vary by season. Check whether the run is available before you travel.

The Mt Buller Bike Park features gravity trails, an uphill road challenge, cross-country trails and a pump track. This offers several different forms of mountain biking, with trails alongside the uphill challenge and pump track. The availability of trails and facilities can vary by season. If cycling is part of your travel plans, check in advance whether the activities you are interested in are available.

Hiking Trails and RockWire

Hiking trails pass through the alpine village, lead to the summit and descend into the valley. These routes offer different destinations to choose from: a walk through the village, a trail to the summit or a route down into the valley. When planning, you can decide which surroundings you would like to explore on foot.

RockWire adds a guided via ferrata tour on the west face of the Mt Buller summit. The climbing infrastructure includes fixed anchors, steel cables, ladders and bridges. Two routes offer a clear comparison: Route 1 is suitable for beginners, while Route 2 has steeper climbs and more challenging holds.

The RockWire tour also includes a hike of about 1.5 kilometres from the car park over the rocky summit ridge to the climbing route and back. This distance refers to the return walk. Operating details may change seasonally; the route configuration and access arrangements may also change. Check the tour details before your visit.

Alpine History and Art

The National Alpine Museum of Australia is located in Mt Buller Village. Exhibits include wooden skis, fashion, publications, maps, photographs and films, as well as historic lift equipment and memorabilia. The museum preserves the history of Australia's ski resorts and tells the stories of the people who built alpine communities. Each year it presents a new winter exhibition and new historical film footage from its collection; the programme may change.

The Mt Buller Sculpture Park Walk is also an art-focused walking trail where visitors can learn about art. Alpine Leisure Tours is based in the centre of Mt Buller in the state of Victoria, Australia. The tours share knowledge about local culture and history and help visitors identify native flora and fauna. The range of options therefore includes not only winter sports and outdoor activities, but also experiences focused on history, culture and nature.

Getting There and Planning Your Trip

A direct bus service from Melbourne to Mt Buller Village is listed as a travel option. Before setting off, check the route and timetable, and whether the service operates on your travel dates. For further planning, you can group the activities according to whether you mainly want to ski, use the Bike Park, explore on foot, or learn about alpine history and art. Seasonal availability and changing tour details are particularly relevant for some activities.
