For travellers looking for a hotel in Buangor, two main themes can help guide your plans: the landscape of Mount Buangor State Park and the history of the former Cobb & Co Staging Stables. Walking trails and a scenic drive offer different focuses for planning your trip. First decide whether you would rather spend your time hiking, taking a drive with views of the hills, or visiting the historic site.

Forest, Water and Rock

Mount Buangor State Park includes eucalyptus forest, creekside areas, waterfalls and steep rocky escarpments. These landscape features range from wooded areas and waterways to striking rock formations. The park therefore offers several distinctive natural features for a stay focused on scenery and walks.

The park has a 15-kilometre network of walking trails, and many trails lead into the adjoining Mount Cole State Forest. This makes the state park and neighbouring forest part of the setting for planning longer walks. When considering the routes, you can take both landscape areas into account without treating them as a single trail.

Choose Walks by Distance and Time

The Bukkertillible Walk leads to a huge granite arch resembling a cave. It is almost 100 metres wide and 15 metres high. These measurements give the destination a tangible profile: the trail leads to a distinctive rock formation whose cave-like appearance is part of its description.

The Jenny Clayton Circuit and the Mount Buangor Walk can be compared by distance and walking time. The Jenny Clayton Circuit is an 8.5-kilometre loop with a walking time of two hours; it can be used on foot or by bicycle. The Mount Buangor Walk is a 10-kilometre loop with a walking time of three hours. By both stated measures, the Jenny Clayton Circuit is shorter, while the Mount Buangor Walk covers more distance and takes longer.

The Beeripmo Walk has a different time frame: this scenic two-day walk passes through Mt Cole State Forest and Mt Buangor State Park. Unlike the two- and three-hour loop walks, this is described as a multi-day walk. Before setting out on the Bukkertillible Walk, Jenny Clayton Circuit or Mount Buangor Walk, check current trail conditions and access.

Local History and Heritage

The former Cobb & Co Staging Stables in Buangor served as a coach and horse changing station. The building is listed as a state-protected heritage site in Victoria. Its former function tells the story of a time when horses and coaches were changed at this station; its current heritage status makes the Stables a distinct point of interest alongside the natural experiences in the state park.

In recent years, the former Staging Stables have also served as a venue for weddings, birthdays and other community events. If your trip is connected with an event there, confirm the arrangements separately. This distinguishes their former use as an event venue from a booking for a specific date.

A Drive Through the Hills

A scenic drive along Old Geelong Road passes the Challicum Hills Wind Farm and offers views of rolling hills. This adds another way to experience the landscape alongside the walking trails and local history. Your plans can therefore focus on different themes: trails in the state park and adjoining forest, Buangor’s heritage, or a drive with views of the hills.
