In Eildon, paths around the lower pondage, mountain bike trails and nearby excursions offer different ways to spend your time. If you’re looking for a hotel in Eildon, these places and activities can help you plan your stay around your interests—for example, with a waterside loop walk, time for a bike ride or excursions to Lake Eildon and the national park.

Getting your bearings in Eildon

The Eildon Information Centre offers visitor information and advice, as well as maps, souvenirs and gifts. If you’d like to use these services, check their availability before you visit. Eildon is on Taungurung Country.

Loop walk and visitor areas at the lower pondage

The Eildon Pondage Walk is a 6 km loop around the lower pondage. It’s flat and easy to walk, and also a popular cycling loop. The walk starts at the car park at the Eildon Lions Day Visitor Area; you can also join it at almost any visitor area along the shore. So you can use the stated starting point or choose another of the described access points.

On the north side of the lower pondage is the Lions BBQ Picnic Area. It has toilets, covered and open seating, tables and a children’s playground. The area is close to Eildon’s main shopping area.

Mountain bike trails with their own character

The Eildon Mountain Bike Park is open year-round; trail conditions can vary. Its narrow, technical trails are designed for cross-country riding. Most trails in the park can be reached by bike, and the Karalika Express can be ridden using your own shuttle. Featured trails include Tea Tree Twisty, Sticks & Stones, Darlingford Loop and Karalika Express. As trail offerings can change, check the current selection before your ride.

The Pondage Walk and the Mountain Bike Park offer different ways to spend time outdoors: a flat waterside loop walk on one hand, and narrow, technical trails for cross-country riding on the other. Which activity you plan also depends on whether you prefer to get around on foot or by mountain bike.

Swimming, water play and facilities in town

Walter Moore Reserve in Eildon has a skate park, a flying fox, a swing and a play area for older people. Eildon Swimming Pool is located in Walter Moore Reserve. The Eildon Outdoor Swimming Pool has an adjoining toddler pool with artificial rock walls and water-play features. The Baanh ba Djila Splash Park, a water-play area, is also in Eildon.

Excursions to Lake Eildon and the national park

Lake Eildon is nearby, and the town serves as a base for recreational activities there. The lake has 500 kilometres of shoreline, sheltered bays and safe swimming spots. Activities at Lake Eildon include swimming, canoeing, water skiing, sailing and fishing. Trolling, bait fishing and casting are fishing methods available year-round. Check the applicable fishing rules and conditions before your trip.

Lake Eildon National Park is also nearby. You can go bushwalking, camping and picnicking there. Wildlife in the area around the park includes kangaroos, wombats and a wide variety of birds. This makes excursions to the national park, with its walks and picnic opportunities, different from the water sports available at the lake. If you’re interested in both, you can take these different options into account when planning your stay.
