Discover Sunshine Coast Regional
Accommodation in Sunshine Coast Regional
The Coastal Pathway runs along the coast from Bells Creek to Coolum. Sunshine Coast Regional also offers a multi-day hiking option, a trail for mountain biking, hiking and running, cultural themes, markets, wildlife experiences and tastings. These offerings have different focuses; when planning, consider both the type of experience and the time available.
Coastal routes, hikes and getting around
The Coastal Pathway is 73 km long. The Sunshine Coast Hinterland Great Walk is 58 km long and can be completed as a multi-day hike with overnight stays at trekker campsites, or in shorter sections as day trips. The two routes therefore differ in how much time they require: on the Great Walk, you can choose between several days and shorter day sections, while the Coastal Pathway runs from Bells Creek to Coolum.
Glass House Mountains National Park has a shared-use trail between the Beerburrum Trailhead and the Tibrogargan Trailhead. It is intended for mountain biking, hiking and running. The Maroochy River Canoe Trail also adds a paddling option to the Sunshine Coast’s activities. These routes and activities offer different ways to enjoy the outdoors.
For getting around by public transport, the Sunshine Coast Public Transport Guide, prepared by TransLink, includes a detailed network map. The guide helps residents and visitors find their way around the coast using public transport.
Cultural themes and market days
The Biwathin Games Trail in Muller Park, Bli Bli, introduces traditional games played by Indigenous children. The trail offers a cultural highlight alongside the outdoor activities. If you are interested in this topic, it provides a clear focus for your trip planning.
The Eumundi Markets offer arts and crafts, entertainment and local produce every Wednesday and Saturday. If you plan to visit, confirm the dates with the operator in advance. This lets you take the market day into account when choosing your travel dates.
Seasonal tours and other experiences
During the season, Sunreef, Adventure Rafting and Sunshine Coast Afloat regularly offer whale-watching tours departing from Mooloolaba. Before making plans, check whether the tours are currently operating. The seasonal schedule is especially important if whale watching is one of the main experiences you want to include in your trip.
The Ginger Factory in Yandina offers tours about ginger and the honeybee life cycle, a ride on the Ginger Train and the Overboard Boat Ride. Tours and rides are subject to operating hours. At Australia Zoo on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast, visitors can see more than 1,200 animals in their habitats or take part in animal encounters. The program therefore includes themed tours and rides as well as wildlife viewing and encounters.
Tastings and local produce
At Maleny Cheese, you can sample cheese and yoghurt, then buy products to take home. Flame Hill Vineyard in Montville offers cellar-door tastings. At Maleny Cheese, sampling and buying products to take home go hand in hand; at Flame Hill, the focus is on tastings. Both experiences add a culinary highlight to the trails, markets and wildlife offerings.
