Wentworth Falls combines historical connections with walking trails that showcase different landscapes and trail features. Darwins walk starts right in the village; other named trails lie in the surrounding area. If you’re looking for a hotel in Wentworth Falls, these specific differences can help you decide whether to focus your stay on local history, nature along the trail or a range of walking options.

History and culture

After Beryl McLaughlin died in 1988, Tarella House and its extensive grounds were placed in the care of the Historical Society and used as a living museum. Tarella Open Days are held from 10 am to 3 pm. Before visiting, check the operator’s website to confirm the opening hours for your planned visit.

Darwins walk and nature along the trail

Charles Darwin walked the route now known as Darwins walk in 1836. Today, it starts in Wilson Park and initially follows a boardwalk, then a bush track through open woodland, bushland and hanging swamps. At the national park boundary, the track meets the Weeping Rock circuit track. Jamison Creek has rock pools and cascades along the route. Honeyeaters, scrubwrens and black cockatoos can be spotted among the native banksias; sightings are not guaranteed.

Walking trails in the surrounding area

The Wentworth Falls track follows a level path past the Jamison and Wentworth lookouts. It then descends about 200 steps to Fletchers lookout, which is perched on the cliff edge. The trail can be linked with the short Weeping Rock circuit, the varied Undercliff track or the historic Princes Rock lookout track.

The Den Fenella walking track is near Wentworth Falls in Blue Mountains National Park. This short walk offers valley views and lush rainforest. The short Weeping Rock circuit is also nearby, linking waterfalls, lookouts and scenic views. Both trails are short, but highlight different scenery: Den Fenella focuses on valley views and rainforest, while Weeping Rock features waterfalls and lookouts.

The Wentworth Falls to Leura walk starts in Wentworth Falls village and forms the first day of the Grand Cliff Top Walk. It is therefore distinct from the explicitly short Den Fenella and Weeping Rock trails.

Trail surfaces can also help you choose: Darwins walk alternates between boardwalk and bush track, while the level section of the Wentworth Falls track is followed by a descent of about 200 steps. This lets you weigh up a route with changing surfaces against one with a clearly described descent via steps.

Before setting out, check current park alerts and access conditions for all trails. Alerts or closures may affect access to the Wentworth Falls track.
