Kurrajong combines a village centre with several distinct points of interest: Kurrajong Memorial Reserve offers open space in the village, while the Goldfinders Inn Group and St. Gregory's are historic landmarks. There is also the Kurrajong Radio Museum, a challenging cycling route and a drive to the Hawkesbury River. This mix is useful when planning your stay, as visits to the village, a look at its history and excursions into the surrounding area can be planned separately.

Village Centre and Time Outdoors

Kurrajong Memorial Reserve is in the heart of the quintessential village of Kurrajong. A modern playground and extensive green spaces shape this open area. Picnic tables, toilets and a car park round out the facilities, and shops are nearby. The playground and open spaces offer different things: alongside a dedicated play area, there is green space for an outdoor break. This makes the reserve easy to include in a visit to the village, with nearby shops adding to the local setting.

Local History and Notable Buildings

The Goldfinders Inn Group can be understood both through its use and its building. The site has been continuously occupied from the land grant in 1809 to the present day; the group served as a wayside inn for long journeys through the mountains. The Goldfinders Inn Group building is a rare vernacular structure dating from before 1840. The continuous occupation refers to the site, while the construction date and classification refer to the building itself. The church and churchyard of St. Gregory's date from 1845; the property on which they stand offers excellent views. The railway line from Richmond is also part of the area's transport history: it was extended to Kurrajong and opened in 1926.

Landscape, Museum and Excursions

On the way to the village, pastures with grazing cattle and horses shape the agricultural landscape, opening up pastoral vistas. Those interested in the rural character can consider the drive itself part of their stay. The Kurrajong Radio Museum turns the focus to another subject: the history of radio, particularly military radio equipment. Working and audiovisual exhibits bring a technical, hands-on dimension to the subject.

The routes offer different ways to experience the surrounding area. The East Kurrajong Loop is a challenging recreational cycling route through the foothills of the Hawkesbury region, with lovely views. The Colo River Drive, by contrast, starts in the village of Kurrajong and follows Comleroy Road and East Kurrajong Road to cross the Hawkesbury River at Sackville Ferry. The difference is useful when planning an excursion: the Loop offers a challenging ride with views, while the Drive leads from the village to the river crossing. If you plan to cross by ferry, check the ferry times in advance.
