Discover Junee
Accommodation in Junee
Junee combines a rich railway history with museums, a chocolate workshop and other leisure activities. Its attractions range from historic vehicles and local stories to nature and outdoor activities. This lets you choose different focuses for your stay, rather than reducing Junee to a single theme.
Railway History and Museums
Junee is home to one of the few operating railway roundhouses in the Southern Hemisphere. The Junee Roundhouse was also the last steam locomotive depot built in New South Wales. These two facts highlight different aspects: one notes that a roundhouse is still in operation; the other places the depot in the building history of New South Wales.
The Junee Roundhouse Museum displays steam and diesel locomotives, passenger carriages including a sleeping car, a rail motor and a mail van. The collection therefore includes not only locomotives, but also different types of carriages and vehicles. Railway enthusiasts can compare different forms of propulsion alongside vehicles used for passenger and mail services.
The Broadway Museum offers another perspective on the region. Its themed exhibitions showcase artefacts from the Junee region. Photographs and documents cover Junee’s rural and railway past and present. While the Roundhouse Museum brings together exhibits centred on railways, the Broadway Museum focuses on regional themes and how they are presented through images and documentation.
Access to the Broadway Museum is through the former bar, which is now home to Betty’s On Broadway café and antiques shop. Check visitor arrangements before you travel.
Chocolate Workshops and Production
The Junee Licorice and Chocolate Factory offers hands-on chocolate workshops. For AUD 6 per serving, you can make a large chocolate creation yourself, known as a “giant freckle”. No booking is required; workshops are available daily from 9 am to 3 pm.
Customers can also explore the production areas independently every day from 9 am to 4 pm. Both activities start at 9 am, but their afternoon hours differ: workshops are available until 3 pm, while the production areas can be visited until 4 pm. As visitor details may change, check the workshop price and current access information in advance.
Nature and Leisure in Junee
Junee Urban Wetland is home to a variety of plants and animals. This adds a nature-focused attraction to the town’s exhibitions and chocolate production. Junee Golf Club offers another leisure option, with an 18-hole, par-72 golf course.
The Junee Regional Adventure Park offers an entertaining and inclusive outdoor space for local children and visitors to Junee. It includes a sensory play area planted with native Australian plants and a swing specially designed for people with disabilities. These features make the park a specific leisure option for visitors with different needs.
The Classic Car Garage in Junee is also an attraction for car enthusiasts. It offers a distinct focus alongside the town’s railway heritage, appealing to people interested in technology who are more interested in cars than locomotives.
