You can enjoy your time by the water in different ways during a stay in Cronulla: stroll along the Esplanade, visit one of the ocean pools, or explore the sheltered beaches and coves between South Cronulla and Salmon Haul. Cronulla is a beach destination with a direct train connection from Sydney’s CBD to the coast; you can also get there without a car. Check the current train services before travelling. When planning your trip, both your preferred way of getting there and the kinds of coastal experiences you’re looking for may play a role.

Coast, ocean pools and beach

Cronulla Rock Pools comprises two ocean pools located close to each other. They can be accessed from Dunningham Park or Cronulla Park. If you’re planning a visit, the number of pools and their proximity to each other provide a clear point of reference.

North Cronulla Beach has a main surf beach area. The natural current at the southern end of the beach creates consistent sandbanks and good surf; conditions vary with the weather and swell. The sheltered beaches and coves between South Cronulla and Salmon Haul offer another way to explore the coast. A walk along the Esplanade is also one of the things to do in Cronulla. This gives you the choice of swimming, walking along the Esplanade, or exploring sections of beach and coves.

Gunnamatta Park and its baths

Gunnamatta Park is a green space with a children’s playground, covered picnic shelters, accessible toilets, barbecue facilities and a pavilion. If any of these facilities are important to your plans, check their current condition before your visit if needed; park facilities can change over time.

Families and groups of friends swim in Gunnamatta Park Tidal Baths and have picnics there on weekends. On hot summer days, children jump off the jetty into the water after school. These activities are associated with different times: picnics are linked to weekends, while jumping off the jetty takes place on hot summer days after school.

Walking trails and street art

The Cronulla Esplanade Walk is graded 1 and 2 – easy – and has accessible access. There is an alternative route behind the Cronulla Surf Life Saving Club that avoids the steps. The grading and access information depend on conditions at the site. If you’re considering this walk as part of your plans, the alternative route behind the club is a separate detail to consider alongside the walk’s grading.

There’s also Walk The Walls, a street art trail through Cronulla’s streets and laneways. This gives you the option of a cultural trail in addition to spending time by the water. If you’d like to plan with a map, check its current availability. Coastal activities, a visit to the park, walking trails and street art together offer different ways to decide which experiences you’d like to focus on during your stay in Cronulla.
